I was not familiar with DELE. In copy editing we always used a squiggle. I am familiar with its friend STET. I guess DELE is the official word for the squiggle? I got briefly stuck on the Z but otherwise a fun and smooth solve with just enough struggle.

I love this poem. I have it memorized and recite it to myself if I can't sleep. The poem is about stillness. It captures a frozen moment in time. It deserves to have that stillness captured in a summary. We never know how long the narrator stops for. One imagines he is not looking forward to what he has to do that evening which is why he has stopped his horse to enjoy a moment of absolute quiet. Some have said this poem is about death, I disagree. It's about being in the moment, taking time for oneself to stop and meditate.

I never thought of a regatta being for anything other than sailing ships and was sure this was wrong. It seems like every time I intend to trot huffily over here to the comments and complain, I first Google the word and, well look there, I did not know that. I got the whole thing (a worthy struggle) with no lookups. If we all knew all the trivia and obscure words, it wouldn't be a crossword Puzzle, it would be a crossword Fill-in. Some days the puzzle falls into place and some days we have to wrestle with it and don't win. Just my 2 cents.

Wow that was a workout. I always feel dumb when I struggle mightily to come up with a 3 letter answer and it's just a common cross-word like TSK or LEI. Silly me! I felt like the corners were 4 separate puzzles so it was extra hard. I was sooo tempted to do a lookup but persevered and finally it all fell into place with EVO and HEP. Thanks for a fun puzzle, Natan!

So easy it was almost hard. Perfect! I love how all of the SETs have diagonal symmetry. And how every 3 letter answer was the same. Elegant!

Rats! I was so proud of myself knowing ONLITTLECATSFEET right off the bat. But misremembered it with the S; it was too long so I deleted it, only to later see I was (almost) right all along. Still solved quite briskly and probably would have gotten a PB if not for that small delay. Over too soon! Enjoy your Caturday everyone!

That was a fun slog. I love the journey from "there is absolutely no way I can start much less finish this puzzle without lookups" to the gold star an hour later after chipping away little by little and square by square. I enjoyed the struggle until I got hopelessly stuck in the NW and had to do a lookup (oreos) for the first time in a VERY long time. I figured being a crossword it was some obscure kind of oreos. My personal rules are I retain my streak as long as I make the best possible effort. Almost to 500!

@Bonnie in days before electronic college acceptance, a thin envelope meant you got a one page rejection letter. If you got accepted, there was a thick envelope with your acceptance letter plus a packet of registration materials.

Fun and breezy! I enjoyed ABCISLANDS crossing CRUISED. Being a frequent Caribbean cruiser these were a gimme. (I finished in about half my usual time) Do kids under 30 even know what hitchhiking is anymore? These days it seems unthinkable. Believe it or not, my dad, as a poor college student in the 60s, would hitchhike from Idaho to Los Angeles at end of term. He has some interesting stories!

I was a little thrown by POCO which means "little" or "slightly". Not sure I agree that's the same as "somewhat". Took me forever but in a good way. Got my money's worth for sure! I was very stuck and convinced several times I'd need to look something up but I persevered and somehow figured it out (not really sure how!).

The thing about Naticks is that if they are unavoidable in the grid the constructor or editor can sometimes change the clue. Jon HEDER was in Napoleon Dynamite, is that too obscure at this point? p.s. I came here to complain that it could have been clued for Bill but then I realized he is HADER. Don't want to be a HATER!
