I am here doing the crossword first thing this morning because the news about last night's debate is too devastating to read.
Who eats corn on the COB at Thanksgiving? Noone.
GONG XI FA CAI. That one seems to be a bit out of bounds. Just a bit.
I am here because news of the Trump love fest at MSG has me absolutely terrified.
Agree with many that this was difficult for a Monday: POGS, ONBLAST, HUNDO. LIAISE.
BTW, the title of the puzzle, Think Out Loud is a nod to Dave Miller's noon M-F talk show on Oregon Public Broadcasting. Miller is an Oregon treasure. His show involves all things Oregon, from all parts of Oregon. It is the kind of show that includes everybody. And discusses everything. He is respected by everyone. A generalist, his interview style is friendly, probing, and inciteful. Everyone should hope to have someone like Miller in their state doing a radio show like his.
Before I even start, the directions about the dials are about as clear as mud.
I couldn't even figure out the explanation, much less the puzzle.
@Nancy What? You didn't know the first name of Miss Universe 2020? Why, I thought that was on the tip of everyone's tongue. /s
I solved but didn't have a clue about the clues.
@Mean Old Lady OREGONIAN
I just can't do this today.
@CC That is so funny. All along I thought EMUs in the comment section was some kind of inside joke about emus. Not sure why, but I figured it had something to do with the frequency of emus (the flightless birds) being included in puzzles. Anybody else?
I have to look up proper spelling. I knew maharasha ali immediately but couldn't spell it. Same with reveille and a few other words. Spelling was one of my superpowers as a kid, but I have lost it.
This one was almost impossible- at least for me.
Got it quickly with one booboo. Had ADDON and POTMASTER which seemed to make some sense. OOPS. Shoulda had an I
DROSS is a new word for me. I had DREGS for a long time.
I got stuck at the top for a long time because I thought oak trees were more stately than elm trees
The puzzles often introduce words (for me) that cause me to learn something new. Today's word was STROPHE
Good to acknowledge my limit. And for this one I knew it was above my grade at the very outset. That said, I recognize that some solvers welcome a challenge as vigorous as this one is.
even with the explanation I don't get how PEE has anything to do with its clue???
A new word_ Tori. Plural of torus. Geometry a surface or solid formed by rotating a closed curve, especially a circle, around a line that lies in the same plane but does not intersect it (e.g., like a ring-shaped doughnut).
I solved it. Got the shape up part of the theme, but not the ship out part. Even after I finished.
@Paul It might have helped if the matching entries were highlighted both ways.
@HeathieJ You would be correct. Doing everything I can from far away. Sent everyone I know the link to standwithminnesota, com
@Mary An oldie, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
@Holland Oats My mother's name. And whenever she left a gathering, the chorus erupted in song.
I had CAT for shooting marble as in cat's eye. And it made sense. I had tired not wired and caz bot taz
Haven't even started yet. But since I am a StarTrek ignoramous, I figure I am doomed. We shall see.
most clever crossword i have ever seen
@SP a stretch to be sure
The Southwest corner absolutely killed me.
TSAR or CZAR? One never knows.
Interesting that so many thought this was easy. Not for me. The most difficult Sunday puzzle since I began solving. And connections? I didn't understand most of the connections even after they were filled in (looked up). Not my thing I guess.
I had to cheat on the entire east side. Nice puzzle but my worst day in a long time.
@Xword Junkie Who knew? autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR)
What does FIT have to do with meet?
I always spelled JEEZ as GEEZ. So has everyone I know.
Lots of problems with the southeast
Got totally lost in the SE corner because too many modern lingo words in the same square. That said, what I could get was fun. And I have figured out how to not stress if I get really stumped, namely, I use the reveal word option. So what if it ruins a streak? Guess you could say I am not OCD.
@John Dietsch all of the colors made it difficult to see what word I was working on.
@Francis DeBernardo That "G" was my last fill. And after going through the alphabet I was still flummoxed.
@B But they were really fun rebuses!
I doom scroll the news. Then I absolutely have to escape to the crossword puzzle.
I could figure out the clues, but had a hard time deciding where to put the rebuses
REOS, SPITTAKE, SPEEDRUN, HEGIRAS, YESMILADY, ENDAT. Couldn't guess even in Easy Mode. And that Schrodinger thing? Really?
@Lisa In the end I missed only TWAS and UNDOBUTTON
Can someone explain HIE?
