Extremely clever trick today.
Good clues again, nice week for avoiding tons of obscure proper names.
This took me almost twice my average Saturday time. Some clever clues.
I really enjoyed that one. Great fill, great grid.
Some very clever fill and clues.
Christ, Pieta, Dead Sea, Holy See, thanks for the Easter touches.
I found that difficult. Great clues.
I found that very difficult for a Thursday! Good one.
Good one. Hardly any proper names, good clues.
My fastest Sunday in 8 years of daily solving.
That was a tough one, very enjoyable.
Not far off my fastest Friday ever.
Difficult and very satisfying.
@So It's a 19th-century usage that perhaps survives mostly in the South. The old-fashioned rule was to pronounce the -ed as a separate syllable when using a past participle as an adjective. It survives now only in a few words, like "aged," "beloved," "blessed," "learned," "naked," "ragged," "rugged," "sacred," "supposed," "wretched." In old books (and Shakespeare) you may see a participle written as "belov'd," to indicate that you're not intended to separate the pronunciation of the "ed."
Awfully fast for a Saturday.
Nearly my fastest solve ever.
Clever and enjoyable, but pretty easy for a Wednesday.
Some very nice tricky clues.
That took me only a little more than half the time yesterday's puzzle did. Nice fill.
That took me half the time yesterday did.
Satisfying but extremely difficult and slow.
Very clever construction, thanks.
Very clever, I enjoyed that.
Clever and unusual construction. Thanks!
That was a good one. Lines took me a moment.
Nice fill, excellent clues.
I've had above-average times all week.
Easy for a Wednesday.
After a string of mediocre Monday speeds, today was fast.
That would have been an outstanding time for a Monday.
Finally, a time this week that was well under my average, after excessive times M-Th.
@Vaer I just went and watched that--wonderful.
I found that difficult--very slow time.
@Steve L I admit that I just this minute understood "headscarf," and I like it.
@Steven M. Same here, 11:43.
@Mike I wondered about that, too.
@Red Carpet And even Dead Sea.
@HEK Strangely enough, that one came to me instantly, while others took me forever.
@BamBam Is it only a southern thing when your grandmother tells you not to be ugly when you're behaving badly?
Fastest Thursday ever, nearly 10 years, and by a wide margin. This would have been a normal time for a Monday. In fact, it's been a fast week for 4 days now.
@ER No, I thought they were clever clues, hard to guess, but satisfying once I got them. And hardly any clunkers among them of the "middle name of obscure rapper" or "obscure river in obscure country" variety.
