would have been a world record for a ... marathon! But I finished with no errors, lookup or shoutouts to family. I have climbed Mount Ezersky, with the flu.
CLANK... was flying along, way ahead of my unimpressive PB, had made a few informed guesses but it was CLANG that skewered me... half an hour of needless checking. Slow down to speed up... turn off the timer and enjoy.
it's always the color blind that suffer most ... fun puzzle. thankful it didn't require 20 rebus!
I'm guessing the pearl clutchers are wondering how Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion 'hit' #1 with a song about Wireless Application Protocol??
By mistake I did Thursday, before I did Wednesday... sorta inside out. Like replacing trauma with joy! I really hope it helps.
Despite the flu and absence of family, I squared the circles and feel rather dandy! Happy Thanksgiving!
@Barry Ancona I think he was being sardonic.
Took more time than usual, tricky for a Wednesday. I’ve never saw the need for 2 snowboards, I only have two legs! Fun solve.
@Barry Ancona pls, let people have their opinions, lest you’re an apologist.
i was sure AC units were BTUS, which led to TANIC PANIC...
@Kate Federally, the DOE is the Dept Of Energy... been so for at least 40 years. Don't forget the New Yorker map of the country, you and I and DC aren't really important!
Always fun to get the gold on the last clue, especially considering it’s a Thursday.
This was a welcome distraction during a difficult day.
Clever puzzle, sadly I didn't figure it out until after I finished.. Never start a puzzle too late at night or too early in the morning. Never heard of SWAK and failed my crossword sobriety test on DWI.
Even with a few informed guesses I was lost in the NE and SE... too much leaning today and not quite enough knowledge!
Is this week’s theme jumbled difficulty? If so I am outraged / delighted by the audacity / courage of the editors to endlessly confound / entertain me!
Interesting puzzle some crosses were daunting... YHEAR sank me. would have made more sense if it referenced understanding rather than hearing. I do see the general connection, YHEAR?!
I was owned by PWN and NANCHERLA... i would have needed to replicate the original typo that created PWN for a shot at a perfect solve... BIGOICTULE was so promising
@Francis If I knew all the answers why would I bother doing crossword puzzles? Learning how to guess well is the fun part for me.
ERAs do not go up if the run is considered unearned for any pitcher involved in the inning. This is not subject to debate, Gary!
@Nancy Awarded in 2021 for 2020.
I was stumped for about an hour and then it all came together quickly. It is satisfying to chip away slowly, one clue at a time, then race through the last half and finish with no errors.
@Boolie There have been more complex variations of this type in previous puzzles. Initially, I assumed the Ts were in the black squares, until I completed the revealer. On a snarky note, why don’t they reveal ALL answers and see who can type the fastest? :)
Gobs is a bunch… Gob is, well, gross generally.
@Susan so funny, I found the math breezy but the Naticks challenging and I grew up in suburban Boston! After yesterday's slog, I decided not to check for errors.
Not gonna lie my time spiked today. Yesterday’s puzzle was a relative breeze. Hit a snag. So many challenging clues.
was really hoping that the answer to 50D was: ONEN... itself an anagram for NONE.
@Grant “Everybody cheats. I just didn’t know” ‘Refund? Refund?!’ “How are you fellas doing? “ “Well, we are a little concerned about the developments in the Middle East…”
@Michael Seems like your cheerios have an alternative liquid in them this morning.
Golf bag is a good puzzle spoiled… I enjoyed the difficulty. piecing together numerous clues from my cluttered memory. Many aha moments and a few groans. Apologies to Twain. One lookup and 3 1/2 hours later. I think I got my $$ worth
@Richard Eyster this is the best parody I’ve ever read is these comments. Ty. BTW, I order Coke products frequently and every so often an honest waiter et al will literally say ….
@Dave I expected this to be trouble, too, but Hunter Hayes was a good first guess once I passed my kidney stone.
past time for me to shore up my musical geography, I had ITAN for 34D which seemed apt for 44A... TAPDUO!!
@Margrethe Gamma a break :)
@Xword Junkie Doesn’t Hunter Hayes sound like a country singer… it screams Americana. Knowing the actress from Wag the Dog eliminated the only country singer i could recall: Garth Brooks.
Breezy PB... got a little stuck on single / double, was sure it was BED. Nice after so many struggles the last couple of weekends.
got the trick, but was impaled by multiple Naticks...
Wow. Interesting mismatch for my trivia / inference skillset… remarkable stack.
@glandus That’s a remarkable explanation of pronoun usage. Truly. But the conclusions you draw may say more about you than the constructor.
Breezy PB… I roared like a Turkish currency.
@Emily The letters IT were moved backward or forward depending on the adjacent clue. So CIRCUS became…
@Andrzej There are good days and bad days… I’m reminded of a speech from Deadwood… Doc Cochran: She wants me to brace her leg so her dragging it doesn't drive you crazy. Al Swearengen: So what'd you tell her? Doc Cochran: Not to worry about your moods, that you generate those yourself and then you find your excuse for having 'em Might just be a bad day.
@NYC Traveler It's a waste of ink to occupy our minds with asshats...
@Mattie I was a typo away from a PR. Just different sets of knowledge. I felt the opposite about Monday!
Stared at it for 30 minutes...nothing. Then DOGG dropped and the race was on. Was hoping bridge expert was ACE... still don't understand TEAL. Loved DDS, but the time span is off.
@Lauchlin I feel redeemed... having had the exact experience. I was so close to solving yesterday's puzzle. Today the numbers were trivial but the obscure flu hit me today...
@Barry Ancona "Some people don't like to be puzzled by puzzles." good one. there's always an answer... even if i can't see it, understand it or like it.
