It's not Spidey Sense?
Truly staggering amount of trivia.
A challenge should be enjoyable when completing a crossword puzzle. This was anything but.
No one uses that spelling of "lychee" (cue the pedants telling me it's quite common...)
Did I sleep an extra day and wake up on Wednesday??
Too many proper nouns, but a clever and fun puzzle.
Just one dreadful example of many: "immix???" Come on.
Easy solve but I do not understand the theme.
I gasped when I figured out the trick. Well done!
I have been alive since the early 1970s. I have never, not once, heard or read many of these words/phrases.
I immediately know I’m in for a treat when I see that Alex is the constructor - thank you, and hope to see you again soon!
Worst puzzle of the year.
Maybe the Games editors are trying to get us to interact more with this space? Coming so soon after The Puzzle That Shall Not Be Named, instead of banging my head against the wall repeatedly and spending hours looking for my (not actual) mistake, I came straight to this comments section, changed my "line"s to "---"s and am going about my day. +1 for all those who say "line" should have been accepted!
Love Andre Braugher (RIP), loved the theme, loved the puzzle!
Absolutely brilliant puzzle. Like others I was initially stumped but as it started coming together the cleverness of the clues began revealing themselves and it became a quick and delightful solve - bravo!
Absolutely delightful puzzle!
I, for one, am grateful for a Sunday with zero look-ups - thanks Chloe!
@everyone I DID IT!!!! I still don't know what I did wrong but the second clearing and retyping yielded the delightful chime. My streak is alive, thank you everyone for the tips and encouragement!
That was a Monday, yesterday was a Tuesday (or Wednesday). Enjoyed it!
Immediate flashbacks to 2020 Zooms, which at first was dreadful, but I realized I can laugh about it now so thanks Jacob!
I have completed the puzzle, have checked it for accuracy 5 times (yes, I Googled once I was finished to find the solution), then had my husband and son check it for me and we all come to the same conclusion that I have completed it correctly, yet I keep getting the "close but not quite" message. Has this happened to anyone else? If I lose my streak I will be bereft and I can not understand how to fix it.
Absolutely delightful, thank you!
@john ezra Shape Up Or Ship Out, 11/24/24, Alex Eaton-Salners - absolutely delightful wordplay!
Not as much trivia as that puzzle last week but still quite a bit.
I thought this was very clever and I, for one, knew none of the trivia so it was not easy. Great puzzle.
@everyone thank you so much, I have tried everything, including clearing the puzzle (not the timer, I'm still trying to save my streak) and retyping every letter with great care to ensure no typos. It still says "something is amiss." I am about to bang my head against something firm.
@Steve @Eric thank you for your ideas, I have the correct answer for 48D, decided to sleep on it and see if some magic would happen overnight but alas not. I'm off to clear the board once again and redo it once again.
@Jim "HINDI" and "LATIN" also fit in the "TAMIL" spot, with "TAMIL" being my third guess - that was a good clue :)
@Katie I read a lot and had no idea this was a place where people enjoy insulting one another. I understand now and will not post again.
@Sheila @Nancy thank you, I have done both and neither worked! I really appreciate the advice.
@Derek Ledbetter yes! One of many intentional confusers, I think.
