Aww! Thanks for saying this Sam! I have missed the old comments before people started talking about how easy things have gotten! I hope everyone reads the column today. Important reminder in there.
@Michael respectfully disagree. I think you can rewrite this comment from a more subjective place and a touch less mean-spiritedness
@Mike always thankful for your punny takes in the comments, Mike. What a warm sentiment you’ve shared for this holiday. Wishing you and yours the best this season.
750 puzzles solved and a Friday personal best. Thanks for this Malaika! Was a delight.
😅 had _EN__ for 46 Down. I am not 12. I am not male. Still had a little giggle.
@Marcia my friend! Gaming is part of the culture. It is important to people. It builds community. It is ok not to like it for yourself. But the collective we does not rise and fall on your limited viewpoints.
Had DOWN in every circle. Filled the puzzle but no happy tune. Came to the article. Skimmed Today’s Theme section. Changed my DOWNs to UPs. Still no music. Came to the comments only to find I was not alone in the PRIcE/HAcE. So thank you fellow solvers! I had fun and I’m excited to come back and do it again tomorrow.
@David J this was so lovely and refreshing to read. Got me a little misty.
Whatever happened to “I done did this puzz” guy? I think about him sometimes.
Woof. I got stuck a lot. MISOPASTE, ADUBA, ONTO, ROY, BROACHES, FAITHS: got em all on my first pass and never wavered. Believe we call these gimmes. Took a long while for me to let go of SEAlegS. The theater major in me was lost with ENTRACTES. Had TESTErS for a while. And just like Caitlin, GRain hung around a bit too long. Also really really wanted ThemIrAge. All the same, a good time was had and I am just happy to be here.
@Classic Hip-Hop Fan early on in the puzzle I was planning my TIL comment about the city being named for stinging jellyfish
@Peter hang in there, Peter! You got this!
Personal best for me and I’m sure it will be the case for many others. A totally delightful puzzle, I’d say. I’m sure there will be someone to pop in with a complaint but for now I’m loving the positivity of we happy few.
@Seth didn’t know this technicality. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. May still refer to bmw cars as beamers in my day to day.
One of my slower Saturdays. Had to come back a few times. But solved with no lookups or help so I like that 😌
@Jacob I love that the emus have no clue what the 7734 is going on today
@Torey Adler hmmm - I live in dark mode and can see the circles. Maybe an app update needed? I do have to up my brightness so that I can see them well when I’m a bit bleary-eyed but they are there. Said with kindness. I come in peace. ✌🏾
@KS I also took a bit of issue with this one. The mohair I know, would not be described as silky
@Andrzej cookie is referring to the tricky clues section of today’s column where we get an explanation of the clue and the answer.
First day this week that I came in well below average. And I took a couple breaks but didn’t even consume any snacks. The center squares were the last to fall for me. But my hairstyle knowledge helped me get through that little rough patch.
12D makes me think of the The King and I https://youtu.be/1JHH6iwgIek?si=8ELz9zgwfktEsmTn
@Paul Turner this comment made me smile and giggle
The 80s babies / 90s kids have entered the chat. SOBEs and LITEBRITES were the most delightful gimmes.
@IZ AR is actually Arkansas - Arizona is AZ ☺️
@Kristopher recent episode of Abbott Elementary deals with this topic. Common in public school systems where standardized test scores are currency for resources.
I’d really held on to ZErO for so long bc I know little about philosophy but I know an outsized amount about Fiddler since I played Golde in my high school’s spring production my senior year. I wanted the constructor to be getting clever with another hidden, secret nod to the show
@Debbie think more of the human chicken than the avian one
@Nancy hooray Nancy!!
@Liz B haystack also set me up for the rest! 😊
Couldn’t let go of LOt so was stuck for a bit. Fun vibes though. Can’t say I’ve seen a puzzle like it before.
@Sarah double my Tuesday time and half my Wednesday time so I have to agree.
@Divs love when that happens
@Lea I’ve been doing the puzzle consistently for about 3 years now. I like the extra challenge most days. But really I’m here for the comments. lol
@Lori there is often some trickery associated with the Thursday puzzle. The cluing as the straightforward word was the trick in this case as opposed to calling out that there is some funny business with the first two letters of each theme clue. It is part of the fun!
Ooohhh - thought there was no rebus but just worked both ways. I liked it with no rebus used. Had a good time with this one.
@Steve L thank you! That’s really all that I can say. You’re always such a valuable part of my day every day.
@Phil better warn them about Thursdays too while we’re here
@Kanye for the mini, right? Right?!
@Jim @Derek Both of EWER 😆
@Nick Roumel love it when that happens
@Danielle did you already read the column? The answer to the clue makes it so that the “YOU” sound is the problem in the otherwise standard phrase The Settlers of Catan. Hope that helps.
@Andrzej arsenio was late night
I really enjoy the smug feeling that comes with completing Thursdays with no lookups and understanding the trick! This one had me chasing that feeling. And as I gave up and headed to the column and read the headline, it all dawned on me! And I said aloud to no one in particular while in-flight, CHANTS! NO CHANTS! lol - cute.
@Janine I’m with you! I made it to the fb group I’m part of to kick off their spoiler thread telling everyone that I got a pr and to hush about it being “easy”. Just let me have this! Dang! 😆
@Pogo Crafty probably can email this to the times. Doubt the Connections product team reads the comments of the crossword puzzle.
@Mickey I agree but also had a breezy Saturday the weekend before last. Got a PR and everything. Would have bested myself this week had it not been for misspelling AFICIONADO - and in turn trying to fill in the blanks of _A__SaTA to no avail.
@HeathieJ good luck on your event! Thanks for teaching us about enchiladas 😊
@Frankie B check out the column for more info
@Lpr ohhh! I just got the other way lol. Thanks
@Shimmer I’ve had someone LEND me or impart some advice
