I had one of my best times ever on this puzzle. I figured this one out early, thanks to Deb’s occasional guidance past columns, how sometimes you have to look back to the CLUE for direction on how to make the answer make sense, not the GRID. Thanks Deb…;)
McCarty is my Saturday success yardstick. I used to approach his solves with a healthy amount of trepidation, expecting a long day at it. I’ve steadily improved, and today I solved in 30! Thank you for making me a better puzzler, Mr McCarty!
I filled “ISPEPSIOK” on my first pass, half joking, believing it wouldn’t possibly hold up throughout the solve. When it did, I was once again amused by this minutiae of our shared realities. Good puzzle. Happy weekend to all.
@Bill Now picturing a local Elks Club grazing on shrimp puffs in the Rockies. Not what I had expected this Monday morning!
While I suppose arguments could be made against the solutions to “Oh really?” and “Capish?”, most would fall into one logical fallacy or another (mine included). Y’hear? Fun Sunday solve.
Ezersky is always tough, but even if I have to use lookups (and I did) it’s still a very satisfying solve. Good Saturday.
@Jared I considered the same but because the instruction is to add a “digit” to each shaded square, I assumed 10 wouldn’t solve.
I saw the name…Ryan McCarty…felt excitement and dread in equal measure. My best McCarty solve to date. A good day!
Star cluster was ANISE for me at first. And of course I thought I was so clever. Fun Friday.
Great construction, fun solve! Outstanding job Danny!
Excited to see the constructors names last night, and today’s solve did not disappoint! Great puzzle, as expected. ENDRANT was my favorite.
This was a fun, clever puzzle. Kudos to the constructors!
I liked it, very much. I must say the solve for one-fifth of a pound involved a surprising amount of math for a crossword clue. Good puzzle.
@Mike I don’t want to be THAT commenter, but this is Wordplay, so here goes…wouldn’t “sneezed to meet you” be what the NOSE says to the handkerchief? I’ll show myself out now.
This was a good puzzle and a fun solve. At first thought this is a bit easier than a typical Friday, but once I had all of my squares filled with no success, I had to hunt for my misspellings. Most I thought correct were off by just a letter (like 25D and 59A, and the wrong “gen”). Nice tricky puzzle. Enjoyed. Have a great weekend everyone!
Such fun word play in an unexpected Tuesday puzzle. I loved the “oh never mind” almost sightings in the themed clues. Very fun.
Fun puzzle, fun theme. The revealer was a tricky spell for me…I thought I knew it but when the crosses weren’t coming to me right away I thought I had it wrong…this was an unexpectedly eye-opening Monday solve.
Had BRANDNAMES for a bit, and not only was my lower right corner a mess, the themed clues were still nonsensical (except for the “names”). But when fixing the downs clued me into TRADENAMES, it was a wonderful joy-of-Thursday-crosswords lightbulb moment. Good puzzle!
Good puzzle, harder for me than a usual Wednesday. Learned stuff, like DISTROS.
