Had never done a rebus before. Or knew what one was. But I knew something was amiss. But when I did figure it out it was fun (and a little easier than usual)
Thought this was tougher than a typical Monday, but maybe my THINKINGCAP was too tight
The clues/answers and theme felt more tortured than usual. Oh well, there's always tomorrow
@Francis It took me a while. At first I thought it was just the answer with ANT omitted, but then I still had a leftover letter I had clicked on the Rebus button a few times before and never understood it. I ended up googling Rebus NYT (about an hour in) and it explained I can put more than one letter in a square. Bingo!
Very enjoyable Lots of great words IMPETUS, ARDENT, USURPS The STUB / STUD symmetry was a nice touch
This was an impressive crossword. I enjoyed the theme, revealer and general wordplay Must be difficult to strike the right balance between easy and challenging for a Monday, but I think it was perfect today
@Petrol AARONJUDGE and ROGER Maris are both legendary New York Yankees. New York, New York!
After 2 mins: "This is easy, this is easy" After 15 mins: "Why you hate me so much?" :)
@Andrzej I dont know who you are Andrzej, but while I doing this one I thought "I dont think Andrzej is going to like this one. Too many sports and americanisms!"
Nabisco unofficially owns the Crossword
Breaking my streak out of protest! (not really, but today's puzzle was not to my taste)
I needed to drink a GIM-LAY after that
Very cool. The rare monday I went very slow as I was enjoying it so much.
I always thought the plural of lacuna was LACUNAE
I am generally not a fan of sound entries but I thought the OOHS / AAH cross was pretty funny
Challenging but fun. More of these please
@Joe P I also had this same realisation. Dont ask me how I know either
SHING A SHONG OF SHIXPENCE Great puzzle
I really enjoyed this one (ie got the theme early, no lookups, fastest Wednesday) :)
I was wondering what a PADLEG was until I got the BOP
This was a lot of fun especially as a big FERNET, CINNAMON BREAD and CABSAV guy myself
Completed this a lot quicker than a typical Friday. Not saying it easier than usual but much like the plot to Slumdog Millionaire, sometimes you just know the answers
I, for one, was UP/DOWN for this puzzle. Very nifty
@Curtis Whenever this clue comes up I now go straight to TMC even though I think TCM is more correct. Constructors seem to love The Movie Channel
I find it amusing the Tricky Clues section features all the easy ones (for me). I was stumped elsewhere
I often get spoonerism and malapropism confused so I'm happy I didnt FALL FLAP for 30 minutes
For me, this was a relatively straightforward Thursday. Only got stuck for a while on NASTYHABITS thinking it was DAILYHABITS
After struggling yesterday today was a breeze. Though I would swear I was more of a Dracula guy than a Wicked guy if you asked me on Monday
Has ORA ever been "Part of a New Zealander's greeting"?
Enjoyed this one again. Only took 2 hours (I forgot to pause it before putting my phone in my pocket)
I dont have a lot of time generally, so I complete the NYT crossword on the go - bashing in answers in the spare seconds I have. This strategy has been unsuccessful for the nth Saturday in a row :(
@Francis I flubbed with LONG DISTANCE!
@Deb Amlen this is why you are the best! ✨️
Me to yesterday's crossword: "You know, this means war"
Enjoyable puzzle. Found the last two a bit gimmicky for my taste so this was a return to form
Struggled a bit. Never heard of JUGBAND before that I was convinced my down crosses were wrong
@Francis Fair point. I had really trouble with IPASS and few others in the top half
I liked this a lot. Not much more to say I also like everyone else's letter bank anagrams. Bravo all
@B I only figured it out because the rebus was identical. Zero chance if they were different
@Bruce thanks. Once I saw the other answers it made sense but still a bit niche for me :)
@Weak I think DAB, USED, ADEPT, PDA, ALOHA and LSAT all used recently
