I have always been a fan of Robert Frost's poetry. Some say it's simple, others that it is far deeper than most imagine. As for me, "A poem should not mean but be" to quote Archibald MacLeish. To those who consistently criticize constructors here's a simple question: "how many puzzles have you had published"? Thank you Mr. O'Neill!
Approaching 80 so headcanon was not in my repertoire before today. Nonetheless I just celebrated 65 years of solving beginning with the times I traced the puzzle so I wouldn't make a mess for my mom! Quite enjoyable today for sure.
I for one am tired of the gimmick laced Sunday puzzles. Please quit publishing them.
Tremendously constructed and such a fun solve filled with aha moments. Kudos to Goldberg!
Mixed feelings here, but I did hit the jackpot! Happy Sunday folks.
Looking outside in minus 9 degree temp and watching the sun rise on Goat Mountain, it suddenly dawned on me that this puzzle was a fantastic start to my weekend.
@JayTee Please submit your Thursday so we can be stumped.
@Jon If you can, read Hemingway's The Old Man and the Sea. Seism was easy for me as I am a California native. If not, I too would have been at sea.
Loved this challenge. Certainly not my personal best time for a Wednesday, but it was one of the most enjoyable.
A fun solve and a bonus hole in one! Gotta love it.
Weighing in on AVE: the word is used as both a salutation and a greeting. My thanks to Sister Norbert, O.P.
Nice crossings today such as Fidget and Digit, Root and Boot. Enjoyed this one especially the overall challenge.
@Albert Of the 500 you've "streaked", there must have been others that weren't your cup of tea. Keep climbing your mountains.
Turns out it was my cup of tea today. Thanks Kelly.
While there is no I in team, with a slight movement of letters, there is a ME. Fun solve today for sure.
So so sorry. Not a favorite Thu Thur Thurs day for me.
I enjoyed this as some clues were a snap while others a challenge. Interesting clue at 14 across, to Gas in Britain is to rat on another. Well done Aimee. Thank you.
At first glance I entered SPINTHEDIAL and, as not all of the crossings fit, my spacebar came into play. A very creative and enjoyable puzzle.
This was a bit too tough for a Wednesday for me. I muddled through but missed my under 10 minutes goal (I am a horrible typist, btw). Oh well another one in the books!
@Jon Basketball player with the Celtics. Then on to coaching etc.
@JE Agree. A three hour commitment seemed daunting but I couldn't think of a better way to spend that time!
Not expecting the need to fill in the "holes" but couldn't stop the timer until I did. Could have been a record for me on a Thursday, but alas not to be. Fun solve anyway!
I've yearned but I have never yenned. Just saying! Look, the NYT wordsmith says Yenned is wrong - now twice.
Larceny that's not grand? Petit?? [ pet-ee; French puh-tee . Maybe larcin in agreement with the answer. Pity the Spanish language students who needed to take French if for nothing else than solving crossword puzzles.
Fast, fun and easy solve. I needed that today!
Well done and "received" and "believed" to the full!
Not a fan of the opening salvo, but worked my way through the rest.
@Hardroch He/She said graduate degree. Most likely a masters. With that and $7.50 you can get a latte at Starbucks.
@C Because..a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather. "other than the petrichor emanating from the rapidly drying grass, there was not a trace of evidence that it had rained at all" Thanks for reminding to look up the word!
This was a bit of a push for me, not as enjoyable as most Thursdays so I will grade it a C.
So much better than yesteday's puzzle.
So here we go again..asshat.. really? Get some class please!
@Barry Ancona Yes, for legal types. Alas, I was an English major/business minor.
@essaySWAG is what we handed out at conferences. Thieves make a HAUL among other things.
One addition, think ALOHA and its two uses.
On the web as usual. Looks finished to me but apparently there is at least one square not filled in. Using a rebus format would have been much more appreciated at least by my 80 year old eyes!
Thoroughly enjoyed this Saturday challenge! Thanks Mr Z!
@Jon Onstot And yet, neither are necessary!
