Wonderful Monday! A little “chewier” than usual, with fewer gimmes. Thank you, Rajeswari!
Deb and Game team, You advise beginning solvers to start with Mondays and look for gimmes. I would add work with a partner! Now that we have some experience, my wife and I do Mon-Wed separately and Thurs-Sun together. Works great!
A bit more challenging than the usual Monday - and I mean that as a compliment. I hope Robert will take a little time away from his legal studies to give us more puzzles.
Clever, original, challenging, and with more than one Thursday gimmick. Bravo, Josh! Glad you are applying to pediatrics!
Thursdays are always a challenge. There will be a trick, but what will it be? This one is more interesting than the more common rebus. As usual, it all falls into place once you figure out the trick - an epiphany, if not a Come to Jesus Moment. More an “Oh, Jesus!” moment. Thanks for a novel Thursday trick!
Outstanding puzzle, Adrian. Thank you. Stacks top and bottom were intimidating at first, but there were enough entry points to help. Some fun clues! Nun’s habit was a cute pun.
One name clue can often be solved by the crossing clues, but when two names cross (EVIE/VIEIRA), either you know it or you need help from Ms. Google. My wife is better on names from popular culture. I’m happier with fewer names, and I really don’t like it when two names cross.
Fun Sunday puzzle. I didn’t understand the cleverness of silent auction until I read Wordplay. Nice trick!
Really tough! Definitely a Saturday challenge. Hopefully doing the really hard ones improves our skill. With a little help from Google, my wife and I got it. Impressive puzzle.
Some found it hard. I thought it was not too hard. More importantly, I think, is that it was fun and different. It must be hard to find a new Thursday gimmick! Nice one, Joe!
Clever, original puzzle! I’m amazed at how many new tricks can be found for Thursdays. This was a goodie.
Great debut, Alex! Keep on going!
Challenging, clever, and original. Thursdays are often outside my comfort zone, but ultimately satisfying. This one exercised the little grey cells under the grey hair. Congratulations, Ella!
@LJADZ Agree totally! Too many names! Crosswords are all about words and wordplay. You either know an obscure name or not. You can’t figure them out and they are idiosyncratic.
A quick, fun and easy puzzle - a perfect Monday puzzle! Thank you!
A challenging, impressive Saturday! Congratulations on your first published NYT crossword, Katie!
Thank you, Jackson, for a fun Friday puzzle. I hope you consider taking the 38D in a few years!
@LJADZ WAY TOO MANY PROPER NAMES!
Great puzzle! Thank you, Willa and Matthew! Almost no proper nouns. Many clever clues. I learned about kinpira.
A very enjoyable, doable puzzle. Thank you for a fun Friday challenge.
Wonderfully clever! Great fun! Thank you, Jesse!
A fun, original, clever and timely puzzle! I loved it. I am not generally a visual person and my printed version had no colors. But I did see the ring pattern right away and guessed the theme. It took a while to recognize (from Yellow Belly, Black Magic, and Blue Bayou) that the Olympic colors were part of the solve, but even if the colors were missing from the page, we’ve all seen them before. I sympathize with the color blind, for whom this puzzle was probably more difficult. Thank you for a challenging (but not excessively challenging) and fun Sunday!
Excellent puzzle, Mr. Gordon. Very challenging (even working with my wife, we needed to consult Ms. Google a few times), but that is what Saturday is about. Some very clever misdirecting clues (for adds, Famous Potatoes, Schulz). Good workout for the little grey cells.
@David Zeidberg Very funny! Thanks!
Brilliant! Very clever indeed. Thank you!
Speaking of nit picking….64 across asks for the cause of some head-scratching. The itching is not caused by the nits (eggs), but rather by the lice that lay them. A very enjoyable and clever Thursday puzzle!
@Lydia Simmons Agree fully with Lydia! Thank you, Jacob!
@kkseattle Agree! I didn’t find it too easy at all. Solving the long answers was very satisfying. Loved 1D, 14A, and the English spelling of 31D.
