We all know Uncle Rebus, now there is Ant Rebus. I thought the puzzle was clever and masterful.
i wish to add my voice to those who felt this was a strange and sadistic puzzle. Some of the answers made little sense and were just not satisfying. Puzzles like this one are enough to put one off crosswords for a while.
cool puzzle. hard but fun. after the solve, I was surprised by the negative tone of the wordplay column. what brought that on?
Only a c-plus after all that effort? Mean teacher!
every single entry I guessed at first was wrong. quite remarkable, the misdirection was epic. I finally finished it. it was a tough go.
There is something really satisfying about a classic, solid crossword puzzle like this one. I enjoyed it very much.
This was one for those who complain that perfectly good puzzles are too easy. I hope they enjoyed it. I found it awful, full of arcane trivia and dreadful clues.
Good puzzle. Seemed impossible at first.
Great puzzle. More like this please.
that was a very odd puzzle. it was unsolvable without the wordplay explanations.
difficult trivia. obscure proper names. The worst clue was sprinkles with oil. I thought dress as a salad. I never heard of anything being blessed by sprinkling oil. Must be a rite I am unfamiliar with. You anoint with oil but sprinkle? no.
nerts? Is that a thing? Is it a Britishism?
Wonderful puzzle, perfect for a Sunday. I really enjoyed it.
I had to cheat a lot to finish this one. It contained some arcane trivia. Nonetheless it was an interesting puzzle with fun clues for the most part.
My apartment number is 5-O, I didn't realize until now that I could say I'm from the police apartment.
wonderful puzzle. very clever but not impossible. Just right for a Wednesday. I really enjoyed it.
I was really out at sea with this one, had no idea what many of the entries were all about. Maybe I'm getting old? What is moose tracks? Mapo tofu? is this something that is popular? mini twix? meat tornado? Really? These words are from another planet. I'm sure a lot of effort went into this but it was just too strange for me.
Some Saturday puzzles are fun and some are not. This one was a turn off for me. Obviously meant for pros. I needed a lot of help to finish it. Some of the entries were completely strange to me. Looking forward to next Saturday.
is the femur the longest or the largest? Had a bit of trouble with that.
Very clever, quite tricky. I'm not crazy about puzzles with anagrams but this one won me over. The faux gardener clue was fun, "what you will" was funny and Etsy/Ebay had me going for a while. Good puzzle.
I'm sure there are some who solved this puzzle in seven minutes but I thought it was very hard. I had to come back to it again and again. The fill was cryptic and the theme was also rather challenging. The spliced gene line was the most obscure and arcane to me. But I enjoyed it. I said to myself: "think like a teenager"
Good puzzle. I enjoyed it. Impressed with myself that I actually knew the word pwned.
juDICious therefore dic=dish, very clever, took me a while. Thanks for a fun puzzle.
a long slog for sure. the bonus clues did not add anything to the solve. Perhaps if the salient clues had been starred, it would have made the puzzle clearer.
fun puzzle. I must be getting good at this.
haha! Great not good. Fun solve.
wow! I had a lot of trouble with this. So much obscure trivia. Not that enjoyable for me. My hat is off to those who can zip through puzzles like this, or say they can.
brilliant crossword, very nicely constructed.
Enjoyable Sunday puzzle. Not too hard, not too easy. Why did it take me such a long time to figure out purchase printout? I kept thinking about why one would buy a printout? Also I liked the two Yiddish words starting with the same t. Fun. I even knew about kiting checks, don't ask me how.
amazing puzzle. PRESS EVENT was particularly awesome.
Names of obscure people made this impossible to solve without look ups. I just do not have room in my noggin to remember every third tier actress or basketball player. I had also never heard of gorp or elea, and I still don't get the link of NBA GAME and jazz. So one of the tougher Saturdays for me although with help from google I finished rather quickly.
@Jeremy -I agree, many clues were indecipherable and not in a fun way. The guy who says he finished in 8 minutes is delusional.
A slog. Sunday crosswords should not be this snooty and obscure.
I found this very arcane with references to things I never heard of. I walked away.
I guess like most others I started out filling in rebuses but they didn't really make sense with the crosses so it eventually became apparent that the extra letters were contained in the circled squares adjacent. Very interesting. The revealer clue was the aha moment. An enjoyable and fairly quick Thursday. Kudos.
this one was mostly easy except for the parts that weren't. No idea what hazy ipa was for a long time and never ever heard of the word bokeh. all in all happy to finish in 32 minutes and astounded that some people finished in under six minutes. Is that even possible? Who are these aliens?
nice quick puzzle. Cute theme. enjoyed it.
A rather impossible theme to figure out and the crosses were pretty challenging as well. For me, this puzzle was one big nattick from top to bottom. Not an enjoyable fill. Let's not have more like this. especially on a Wednesday. Thanks.
great puzzle. incredible construction.
I enjoyed this puzzle. It was plenty hard but fun, which is what counts for me. The rebuses were extremely clever.
a tour de force. Bravo! I couldn't make leningrad work and then realized there was no road under the bump. Aha moment! great puzzle.
This was a very nice Sunday puzzle. I am astounded as usual by those who say it was too easy or that they finished it in four minutes -LOL! I enjoyed it but it took me over an hour to fill in. Still I was very impressed it that I got it all. I liked the Olympic theme, it was very well done.
Nice puzzle but I hit a snag at 23A. I have heard of et alia but not alii. Is that the plural? Live and learn.
I didn't enjoy the cluing, and I thought the slang phrase odd. Some answers just didn't make sense to me. I don't know what a spitsgame is and don't care to know. Gluon? Taki? I hate when the right answers seem wrong.
Charming puzzle. Easier than yesterday's.
fine puzzle except for the et alia/alii thing. Never have I seen et alii but whatevs, it's a crossword.
great puzzle, liked it a lot.
I got the theme quickly although I had USS Enterprise, that threw me for a while. The fill was sort of agonizing I must say. It took me a long time to figure out that the names in the bubbles were read bottom to top. The whole puzzle threw me from beginning to end and I was happy to finish. Sometimes one just isn't on the same wavelength as the constructor.
