The numbers thing was fun, but way, way too many obscure names.
@Jen P. Flagged to the moderators for being inflammatory
I'm not sure what I enjoyed more - this fantastic Monday puzzle or the constructor notes. You can feel the good vibes all through this puzzle!
Das boot, Icer, Plotzed, TeHee, OGuage, Nia Loved the theme, but the rest was a bit filler, not killer
Two year Tuesday streak broken by this abomination, and I don't care. This might be the first time that there is nothing good to say about a puzzle.
That was not only.clevrr, but a lot of fun too. Plus a sprinkling of Zs, X's, Js and other interesting letters too. A good start to a Tuesday!
@Isaac P Totally! But it's pretty amazing to get that name into a puzzle.
Loved it! Especially as there was no mad trivia that is impossible to guess. An incredibly well-thought out puzzle. Thanks!
@Puzzlemucker This was my solving experience as well (except it took me a bit longer!). I'm totally onboard with you regarding today's column as well. I imagine that there's pre-publication meetings where these kinds of opinions can be aired privately without ruffling too many feathers.
As someone who lives, not only on Spain, but the actual town where ZARA is headquartered, I was quite chuffed to see it in today's puzzle. Interestingly, ZARA is owned by one of the world's richest people and Europes biggest philanthropists - Amancio Ortega.
That was A LOT of fun!
English teacher here. I think the vowel sound in father is a SCHWA, not a SOFTA.
@Anthony I've just seen that this has already been answered. Apologies for commenting before reading properly.
I loved this puzzle and to misquote the Beach Boys It started fast but then it finished slow...
41 is not correct - it should be BEGAN. The clue needs to be 'has/had kicked off' for the verb tense to match the answer. (Begin / Began / Begun)
@Shannon Same for me (both the too many obscure names and the constructor thing).
Who opened this puzzle and instantly closed it, thinking it was one from the archives they were also working on?
@Andrzej That is a truly tremendous name for something so banal!
It's Menorca, not Minorca.
@Bob I gotta jet, said no-one, ever.
Could someone please explain "they're raised in Chi-town" to me? Non-American here and I think it's gone waaay over my head.
@Bill in Yokohama I feel exactly the same way. It felt like a smarmy pub quiz full of trivia that you know or not. No chance of solving though the crosses.
@Fact Boy Wherever it comes from it's a spectacular word and I'm so pleased that I now know it!
