Although I love to do these on the Thalys, I confess I don't always get through them without some assistance. I can often blame not being an American, or when I feel really deflated - Not a native speaker. However, I had this one open all day and am happy to say it's now fully solved! Really enjoyed it, being stuck and overcoming some nasty ones. It wasn't a pure victory, I had to look up a few cells, but that's good enough for me (izzatso and the 'w' missing from wnbaers had me for a while). The logical fallacies were great though, and really helped me on the way at my first pass! (I do wish you had included my pet peeves - the oftmisused "begging the question".

Had a very hard time with this one, although seemingly at different places than more experienced puzzlers here. IKE was my first guess, as the only 3-character South Park character I know. DERRIERE was also in there before any crosses... But I had to double-check some I'd looked up in puzzlement. To me some of the answers could've been cryptic clues. Yoked? Serape? Pinto? Maa? Oh well! I'll get better. Thank you for the nice puzzle

I was done with this puzzle well-below my average time on this one, record time even. I got absolutely nowhere and gave up after the first pass. Good on everyone that did and enjoyed this headscratcher!

This may be the first time I had to look up more after filling out the puzzle than while filling out the puzzle. The empty boxes made more sense to me than the (correctly) filled ones.

It was very quick and I had a nice chuckle at the connection of the three long answers... And then I racked my brain for five minutes to get this strange SW corner solved. Not being into American sports and American identity politics made me guess 15 times for the last square to be filled.

Couldn't do it by myself, or perhaps I would've needed more time than this day had for that. I see how beautiful it was now, and wish I had been good enough to get the a-ha moments on my own. Impressive puzzle!

@Amanda the thing that's -really- annoying fur the non-U.S. people is baseball questions. Geography, sure. U.S. presidents, OK. Brands... not great. But baseball... not even Americans themselves care about baseball.

@Steve L I looked up Orono post-hoc. It has fewer inhabitants than the village that I grew up in. Have people in the western U.S. actually heard of this city? I've travelled through Maine twice on holiday - although that was when America was still an appealing travel destination, so it's some years ago. The Latin phrases were easy... a ball-peen though, I thought that would be NSFW.

@Joseph had to look that up. Guessed Irene, guessed rod, didn't make any sense to me. I do think I could've gotten CDs with more time, but it seemed hopeless with 4 to go. Oh well!
