Great idea, I think? It ew on me
@archaeoprof I wish you well…… keep at it, finding joy in half a puzzle is a miracle and a half.
Good one. Lots of fun. Good clues. Great answers . Short ones. Long ones. Shag and brag baby.
That is what I like to refer to as a “good, hard, steady slog” with lots of puzzlers that slowly reveal themselves with time, patience and the occasional break. A couple of stand outanswers that made laugh/smile: SILENTB EARCANAL Excellent puzzle imho.
Fun fun fun! A fast, steady solve. Liked the theme. It was clever. I hit the Paul McCartney song milestone a few years ago, so now I’m singing “When I’m 128” Kidding, not kidding……
Amazed myself with this fun, challenging puzzle…. I did some of it and then left it for five hours to do a walking tour of Paris. When I came back, I picked it up and low and behold — the answers just fell into place “click click click” ….and I was done with STUNTDOGS capping off a rare no-look up Saturday solve! Great puzzle!
I like rebuses (rebi?) just fine. Better when I figure them out easily. This was fast and fun. A bit too fast for a Thursday, but that was part of the fun for me. I felt smart. Gotta HAND it to ya’.
I almost quit when it seemed to say that bats were Amazon nuisances. Lol. Good puzzle. Fun steady solve.
This was a challenging fun puzzle with great clues and interesting fills. One quibble with the clue for TSKS which I don’t see as pithy at all and barely put downs. Short expressions of disappointment or disapproval yes but….
Wasn’t feeling this puzzle. Let it lie while I walked the dogs. Came back. Gripped it and RIPped it with 8:06 off my Wed. avg. Turned out (pun intended) to be a fun one….
So many bad/off/miscued clues, obscure (to me) people and fishy answers (BARBIECORE ?? what?) Too many to re-hash, but all summed up in others comments. A thumbs up won’t get you a ride (and I DID hitchhike all the way to NM in 1976) but a thumbs down will get you my opinion of this puzzle. Didn’t bother to finish.
5D is not a Paris neighborhood but a city proper outside of Paris. It is where Saint Denis died sometime around 250 CE after being beheaded in Montmartre (Mount of Martyrs) and not dying on the spot. Legend has him carrying his head and preaching a sermon over the butte and down the other side. When he finally finishes his speech he drops dead. On the spot, St. Genevieve has a chapel erected which becomes the basilica of Saint Denis. A minor quibble to a good puzzle but a fascinating story, which goes much deeper than my short version.
I liked it. Harder than a normal Wednesday for me, and that’s a welcome bonus. I’m ok with LATEN btw’s. Archaic words thrown in here and there are also a welcome bonus.
“The elks, on the other hand, live up in the hills, and in the spring they come down for their annual convention. It is very interesting to see them come to the water hole. What they’re looking for is an elkahole.” — Julius (Groucho) Marx
Nice Wednesday puzzle. Challenging enough, while being fun. Anything that references my name is a hit with me. Didn’t understand 46D. Got it from the crosses. Can someone explain? Clan of the Cave Bear. Lol haven’t thought about that book/movie since the ‘70’s.
I liked it. Except Pot papers…. as a clue, it was a stretch. Fun and challenging theme.
Easy for a Thursday but okay by me. I prefer to think they’re hard and I’m getting better. Liked the theme. The SE corner was a tad but Natick-y or is that just me?
Fun! RAG not Rap GOSSE not Posee A little easy for a Friday (for me) but challenging fun. Thanks
Cute , fun and easy for a Thursday. Made me feel smart, because I got the gimmick fairly easily. Thanks!
So much fun. The SW had me stumped for a long while. Naticks ? I DONT BUY IT I had vale for DUCT tears I love when things click
@Steve “Those veggies have turned” is common kitchen slang for gone bad or rotten.
Solved it with only one mistake/look up (The EAMES Brothers got me) which is a miracle for the Sunday so-big puzzle. I liked the theme and enough clues to keep me off-balance and thinking.
One of my favorite movies and favorite TV shows in the same puzzle PLUS Rebusses (Rebii ??) (I had MEEMAW right off the bat because I had Young Sheldon on at the time ijs) 2026 is off to a great start!!
Wow! Great puzzle. ASCIe had me searching for a little while. Good steady solve with a lot of Aha’s.
@ad absurdum as a Thursday child I always found this nostrum to be too on the mark. I’m still at it!
@NYC Traveler I had aMEN and spent a little while before I figured out it was OMEN That clinched the win and CUED the music. I liked this puzzle bc it was fun, fair and I had no look-ups.
I felt like it was a Friday puzzle when I got KITE. Otherwise it was easy. I ICEdIT
I liked this one. Am I getting better/smarter or are the puzzles getting easier? Asking for a friend….
@Chrisinroch Well said! I don’t know enough about her art or her music to have an opinion but from what I’ve read she is a great artist who was on her way to a stellar career, when overshadowed by a giant. She became, in my humble opinion, one of the greatest muses of the 20th century. I also have the totally unexpected surprise of meeting her one day, one is very quiet day in Albany New York as she was getting out of her car to go visit the governor and some matter (I forget what). I was able to say hello to her and thank her for her inspiration to John and to the world and she was very gracious to this random stranger.
@James me too. I was never a “pot master” even in college. It always bested me.
Fun solve. Good clues and just challenging enough for me. Thanks !
Great Wednesday. Lots of fun. Challenge enough. Liked the theme. I’m over (not under) whelmed.
@Chris G I have not gone into the archives so can’t opine on if they are harder, but if the solver has gotten better, wouldn’t the archived puzzles be easier too? It seems so, so the assertion that today’s puzzles are easier (relatively) makes more sense to me.
Nice one. No mistakes. No look-ups. 19 minutes off my average. But challenging fun. I was on the right wavelength today.
Was a really good puzzle to solve. Challenging. mOLE didn’t work so I had to resort to a look up. Oh well. Let the good times VOLE.
@Mick touché. Well said.
@Spencer L it is not that new. It has been around in the gay community for… well, centuries. It comes from the phrase “spill the tea” or “what’s the tea?” “T” being short for “truth”
@Ragland based on a 1944 novella by the ever-intriguing Colette who lived in the Palais Royale during the 4 years of the Nazi occupation. Undoubtedly she was dreaming of better days…..
@Heather it’s from the ‘40’s I’m sure I’ve heard it in old movies. Also a ‘sawbuck’
@Eva H. Or a certain political party which revels in the “Airing of the Grievances”
@Jack Sullivan “He vas…… my BOYFRIEND!” Lol
@Lee “Tower of Big Ben” is “for” Big Ben so the clue works for me.
Fun and challenging puzzle but… While I like rebi (rebuses?) this one didn’t work for me.
@Helen Wright pull up bar
