1. Nice puzzle! 2. The fact that people young enough to have done anything on Discord in elementary school are now also old enough to construct NYT crossword puzzles is...something alright. Excuse me while I turn to dust.
Pro tip: if you Google "xwordinfo" to look up a few answers then immediately close the tab and delete the search from your Google history, it's like you never looked anything up at all.
I was not fond of this theme. But that's ok, I don't have to love every puzzle I do.
I already see a trend forming in these comments, so I'll offer the opposite perspective: I really enjoyed this! A bit challenging, but not intimidatingly so. I know some folks look forward to more difficult puzzles at the end of the week, so I can see why they may be disappointed, but this was fun for me. Great first puzzle for the constructor, too!
I spud through this puzzle!
Oh wow, I read way too much into the theme. I thought ENSIGN was a sign in English (ENglish SIGN), and DEPOT meant like a Danish cooking vessel, thinking DE meant "German" which is close enough to Dutch... and ARBITER was an ARabic term for a biting creature like a snake, which may informally be called a "rattler"... ...I need to not smoke as much weed before doing these crosswords, I think.
This felt like a Tuesday that was given Monday duty for some reason.
The way the answers containing the circled letters describe the characters whose names are spelled out by those circled letters is fantastic.
Nobody over 30 needed that revealer, haha. Cute puzzle.
Not done yet, but I just want to say that "Caesar's addressing" is fantastic
Tricky for a Wednesday! Not a bad thing at all. This felt a little "old school" to me in a way I have trouble articulating. Still accessible enough to solve trickier clues with crosses.
Maybe it's because I'm not British, but I never would have gotten 1-Across without crosses. The proper noun made me think it was a reference to someone in particular.
SEXTAPE has appeared as a clue in the modern era more than TREETOPS. I don't know how interesting that is, but there you go.
I think I admire the construction behind this one more than I liked filling it out, if that makes sense.
Clever clues, lively fill, and terrible puns. Just how I like my Sunday puzzles.
I don't love the two separate "laughing sound" clues, but that's my only nitpick. Great Friday puzzle--vigorous but not too difficult.
@Mr Dave "Parker, I want the crossword answers on my desk five minutes ago. Don't tell me you have to check them first--we're making puzzles here, not encyclopedias."
@Dan Yeah, I really liked the theme, but the fill itself was not my cup of tea.
@Chris g You should be more gentle with your peanut butter.
I'm not even done yet, but what a cool theme.
Love when I actually figure out the theme right away. Whole thing fell into place nicely; fun experience.
Tough southwest corner, but cute theme
I actually found this to be a little tricky for a Monday.
I'm on Android, but the underlines showed up for me. A few of these fills were not my favorite, but I like a cute lil unexplained theme.
Damn, did juries used to not have boxes/specially designated areas in court?
Uh, what's up with 1-Down? I'm sure it's not as vulgar as it sounds to me...
@Mike You're plum out of ideas
Feel like the black (asymmetry-creating!) square between 24- and 26-Across should be gray as well...overall, cute theme!
@DQ I don't get SHORTA at all :(
Great theme! Wish you could let the circles be blank though.
Fun, relatively easy fill, but I still don't really get the theme?
@Josh wait now I don't think this comment even makes sense
I've always assumed "pwn" is pronounced "pawn"
@Josh I meant "rigorous"....I think.
@Dardanus Same. Maybe if I keep doing crosswords for like 20 years, I'll be one of those people who gets frustrated by "easy [day of week] puzzled," but for now, I'm all about them.
Also, ESCAPE doesn't really work, right? It should technically be ECAPE.
@Josh Sorry, never mind, it wasn't deleted, I'm just an idiot.
I'm a little disappointed my comment presumably got deleted. Obviously not saying people had to agree, but I don't think I was out of line.
