Brilliant, I loved it. Yes, it took longer than usual but Sundays haven’t been challenging in years. And this wasn’t math; it was elementary school level arithmetic.
@Lauren The full palindrome is “ a man, a plan, a canal, panama.” The clue said “beginning of well-known palindrome”. That said, it took me awhile to figure out as well.
Difficult but extremely clever. Loved the challenge.
Edward Gorey and Paulina Porizkova were gimmes, for me. Payback for all the Star Wars/Trek, sports, rap and chess answers that weren’t.

@Nick And here I was wondering whether Qatar had purchased a stake in the NYT because of all the Arab/Islamic words we were suddenly seeing in the puzzle.
This would have been much better to solve on paper rather than on a iPad. For me, it was extremely hard to remember the missing letters for each down clue. I got the theme and the happy song but Im sure my time was much longer than usual.
