I set up an appointment with the gastroenterologist because I… HAD A GUT FEELING ;)
@Kitty Goats - per my grand daughter’s farm-themed books!
Am on holiday in india - so have got to the comments very early for me. Enjoyed the puzzle… the NNNN piece told me something was being stretched!
@redweather I’ve noticed that TV golf scores use E when they mean the player is at even par after n holes.
Lovely puzzle… smooth solve. Just a minor nit - that the Brahmaputra is indeed what the river is called in India - in Tibet it is the Tsangpo. Perhaps that’s okay as a Saturday level misdirection.
Faster than usual Saturday! Don’t know what it says about me, but I got 1A with just a couple of the crosses!! ;)
EOY nominee for most endearing constructor’s notes award!!
@SP I see what you mean… though the meanings are very different, so that buys a pass in my book. :)
@Sabrina I guess this wasn’t actually a rebus (in the crossword sense). And the letters wouldn’t work with the down answers. The hyphens worked with the down words and a string of them is a ‘line’ (in a classical rebus sense). I hope that’s isn’t too confusing!
@Tuesday Thanks. Yes - that’s what I meant by “classical rebus”…. As opposed to what the “rebus” option on the keyboard does - ie inserts multiple letters to a square . My main point is that using any letters in that across (eg line, or dash) will mess up the down words… which, in normal usage, would use a hyphen (e.g “MID-AIR”). Anyhoo….
@Puzzlemucker More, more, more indeed!! Thanks very much for this!
Lovely puzzle! I would submit that the country of East Timor is so named, because it consists of the eastern part of Timor island… so not entirely tautological perhaps!
@Kate R I use the NYT puzzle app on iOS and it shows all the minis in a row… easy to spot the ones not yet solved. Hope this helps…
@Steve L I didn’t notice this while solving ( I had the initial C), but I kinda see the point made by the Canada based commentators. Would it be considered OK to clue NPR as a “a DC based media company”? The clue is technically correct IMO, but just a bit off - Especially on a Monday?
@Puzzled Brit I believe they are called Chartered Accountants in the UK
@Kisha The retina of the human eye has ‘rod’ cells and ‘cone’ cells which are light sensitive.
@Andrew I thought that was just miss Doolittle! ;)
@Anita IMO the long downs and 23A made for a nice post-solve Aha!
@Andy K YOURE NOT WRONG!!
@Steve L Probably sharpening his chisel! :) Hope alls well.
@Steven Huh? Oh, Zelda! Nice one!
@John Appleseed I had Appleseed for 29D on my first pass… just based on the D… :)
