While I was also hung up on papal vestments and Kona beans, I was particularly thrown by MAA. It had to be MEADOW, and it had to be ASTLEY, but cows go MOO and sheep go BAA? I’ve never heard of anything going MAA. Perhaps noises have evolved since my children were small 20 years ago.
@Annie astute observation. Thank you for your insight.
@Stephen is that really necessary? Not everything has to be dissected. It’s a game.
@dutchiris I find myself competing against myself solely for the gold star. If I need to use any help, be it google, auto check, then I have lost that for the day. I will not check the answer key in order to save the gold. I begin to see patterns this way; apparently I can only solve every other Thursday without any aids, and I’ve only nailed two Saturdays! It’s cheating only against myself and my sense of pride. :) I’ve also only been completing the puzzle since March, so proud I am.
@Tas I think you may be thinking of a different, but rhyming word. The kids are calling good, poppy music bops these days. Of course, I see BOP as the Bureau of Prisons, which is quite vulgar in my world :)
@Ιασων I saw movie reel tape, so I was way off!
@dougschoemer you get paid to do the crossword! How fortunate :):)
@FJC And to further the issue, lasagne is generally used for the baked pasta dish in Italian; its English counterpart is just one singular lasagna noodle :)
@Vaer Today I learned that “Kiss the Girl” has the same amount of letters!
@Joe idle hands do the devil’s work!
@jlemen yeah it’s annoying. I remember all the PEARL clutching when there was an answer of “NRA,” so much so that the author had to put in an apology and promise to never trigger people like that again. I’m just here to solve puzzles to bring a little joy to my mornings. I’m always eye rolling at the clearly biased constructions. But alas we continue on.
@Jamie “that’s just like, your opinion man” -the dude, whose sentiments regarding the eagles are similar to mine :)
