I like the theme but someone needs to go to jail for IZZAT
Add me to the chorus of folks not pleased with ABYSM.
Came here just to say NO to “yabber”
How refreshing after last week’s all-time clunker. May have been a little *too* easy for a Sunday (or I was just very lucky) but still an enjoyable fill.
@Ed it’s one way to read the clue, but that doesn’t make the alternatives (largest by population, largest by GDP, largest by spend) less correct.
This didn’t slow me down because I had the cross already, but YIPES?
My fastest (or maybe even my first) Thursday with no hints or look-ups! Neat theme. Clever but not “too much.”
I can’t believe 27 across wasn’t “end war”
Absolutely brutal that a PeRNO is a bolt that can be marked with an x, and “get me” just sounds better than GOT ME
I lost four minutes of time staring trying to find what was keeping me from the solve… YAP/YIP and APROMISE/IPROMISE was frustrating.
Maybe this was just an easier than usual one, but I outdid my previous Friday record by quite a bit and with fewer hints too! I enjoyed the multiple coffee and compost references, it felt tied together.
@Times Rita - solving in the app, I didn’t get any teeth animation!
Sorry to say I think “what it’s not…” is a pretty awful clue for those two. Just awkward and odd.
Why don’t you give credit for 10x1 and 2x4 in the lower right multiplication square? I had to use check puzzle to see that you had 5x2 and 4x2, but the math works for both. Bummer. (I was able to enter 10 by doing a rebus in that square, I think)
Mild chili designation really threw me. Can’t remember seeing alarms, it’s almost always flames isn’t it? Flame working for a couple of the crossings had me committing to it even though I knew it couldn’t work because of 60 down “ON ME”
What is an RDA - 22A, it’s what you should take, in brief? Can someone explain? Also “ALE TAP”…. No
How come sometimes the little “i” shows the puzzle title and other times it doesn’t? Didn’t matter for my solve today but it annoys me when the wordplay column references the title as if it’s something we should know. (Or is there just no title today / is it somewhere else? NYT puzzle app user here)
