Such a fun puzzle! I spelled ‘Macao’ as ‘Macau’ though, which appears to be another acceptable spelling, and caused me no small amount of confusion and wondering what ‘uks’ are!
At last my Spice Girls knowledge pays off!
Such a fun solve! Some puzzles have felt like a bit of a slog lately but this one was pure joy. As soon as I opened it up and saw the spirals I was excited and even stayed up late with a sleeping baby to finish it up. Nice to have something so fun and full of a theme early in the week!
Fun theme but the Harry Potter clue gave away the revealer instantly. Felt a bit easy for Wednesday but Tuesday weirdly stumped me this week, so I’ll take the quick solve!
Fun puzzle except for the words being spelled wrong. That seems like cheating on the construction to me.
As an ARIES it took me far too long to realize that a ‘bold ambitious type’ referred to my zodiac sign and not as I thought the typeface ‘Arial’ which I think would be a punnier and more fun clue…
Thank goodness for this comments section. This was such a fun puzzle but so frustrating at the end for no good reason. Adding my voice to the chorus of whhhhhhhy ‘line’ couldn’t be accepted.
Happy Birthday! This was a delightful puzzle and I worked through it surprisingly quickly for a Friday. I must think the same way as Colin.
Huh, I’m stumped. This has never happened to me before, but I correctly filled out the whole puzzle and have no idea of the theme or why I filled out the crosses the way I did… I’m now going to go back and read the column to figure it out. Looking forward to that ‘aha’ moment but a little differently this time!
@Andrea a ‘lemon’ refers to a car with a major problem. I usually think of it in the context of a used car dealership that sells someone a lemon where the owner doesn’t find the problem until after purchase.
Nice easy Friday. Loved how this one unfolded. It was a challenge without being frustrating.
I’m not very far into this yet but find it distasteful that there is a Nazi propagandist in the lower left corner. Also seems in poor taste to cross 21D with Michelle Obama’s mother’s name especially as she recently passed. I’m probably being a bit precious but both entries have left me having a lot less fun with this one so far. Not nice to have a bad taste in my mouth while solving.
Very clever theme entries, which I found a treat to solve. BUT the filler has been SUCH a slog. Finally came here to try to jog my thought process a little bit. Has ended up being a long frustrating solve.
Wow congratulations to the very young constructor. So many fun entries… and some that had me scratching my head after filing them. There were some reaches for me like ‘EZ pass tags’ as I’d never refer to it as a ‘tag’ but then again maybe thats reflecting different regional terminology. Overall a fun and accessible solve for a Saturday.
Absolutely lovely! I had to check Wordplay at the end for a few last spots that eluded me but it was such a satisfying solve. Just what I needed!
Finished the puzzle and had to come here to understand the theme. I guess I’m not quite cultured enough! Still a fun solve, theme or no theme though.
What a fun one! Once I revealed the first theme entry I was so excited to puzzle out the others. Had to do quite a few lookups on the trivia entries through.
A lovely puzzle but off took me so long to get there today and finally had to take a peek because there was no way I was getting 78D on my own!
Oof! This was a hard one for me but so delightful.
