This one's a bit much. Gave up and checked puzzle to find less than ten answers were even right. I suppose you gotta have a super-hard one once in a while, but this might be the toughest one in four years of doing this. Nothing clicked, no trivia I knew, no clever aha pun moments. Oof.
[shrug] I'll be the voice of dissent - this was so much harder than yesterday. Gave up and started revealing instead of looking up, too much trivia and foreign words intersecting each other in NW and SW. On the plus side, TIL lynx is a valid plural and chalet isn't a ski lodge.
Got the east side filled in without lookups (wish I could unsee barbiecore). But west was just hell. Having "pressed on" and "hitch a ride" didn't help. Nor did lookups, especially when the first dancer that came up with that last name has a different first name that also fits the puzzle. Gave up and revealed half the clues in NW and SW. Looked in the dictionary and still have no idea what "evener" was about. And "feminine side", really? Am I solving a crossword from a century ago?
Hardest puzzle I've seen in four years of doing those. After a few passes gave up and checked - only had 3 or 4 words right... Granted, it took me a year to learn all the usual crossword slang and hints, but can't say I look forward to new set - I definitely don't have any common wavelengths with the other guy
I've ordered a lot of Alaska rolls, not once did I see them made with the salmon on the outside. Overall pretty easy except for NW. Obscure + foreign + regional? is a tough combination so I looked up a few words to finish.
I prefer an "ahh, I get it" crossword, but one check puzzle later it turned out to be an "ohh... i get it" variety
One of the hardest of the year... Couldn't get a cross without lookups, combined with long phrases and extra tricky clues. In the end got most of it but gave up on SE and parts of NW and revealed. Not my wavelength at all
As a tall person, aisle seat should be clued as bathroom access preference. Unless you like your legs crushed by metal carts and trampled by clumsy feet.
Fun puzzle with a neat trick. Enough crosses that I didn't need lookups. A couple complaints though - taste is not style, and pats are not caresses
Lost the star to Gaia. In retrospect Ike is a rare but real name but didn't want to proofread every single clue
A top level domain is not a file extension. That hint was painful
Quick and easy thursday. Took a few clicks for the theme to click and looked at the column for some clever clues. Yet to see an inside-out alaska roll in all the years of eating sushi in many states and countries though - but remember seeing it here before, must be the same constructor
50D should just say catches. And 54D is plain wrong, that's a squire
Marked the rebuses (rebi?) as plurals, Us, Es, etc and it was marked wrong. I had another clue mistyped so would've had to check anyway. But that felt like the most logical way to enter the pun and should've been accepted
Had to check puzzle because I had ERR... Not familiar with that particular snack and never seen IRR in any context whatsoever. Irradiated? Irrational? - what do imaginary numbers have to do with standards??
Easy and helpful theme... But is anyone else's puzzle borked? Shows as blue (not solved fully) but the only option in the crossword is to reset puzzle. All spaces are filled. Weird
17A that's not what that term means. I guess the editor needs a dictionary as much as the puzzle's author
@BDJ AI slop is the only good term for it
