Can someone explain how Mason solves to HARDHAT? I don’t see any reference to that as a name for a mason.

When you see DHP in a row, it makes you think twice about the cross clues. I was sure about those so had to look up pants starting with J. Never heard of those. I guess I don’t do enough with horses. I liked the solve. Fun puzzle. Easier than standard Thursday, and definitely easier than yesterday’s.

@Katie it’s good to hear from the community so you know you’re not alone in the frustration or dislike — or the enjoyment of a puzzle. Some of the comments to this thread about the proper way to respond hold good advice.

25 and 34 across had me looking for a Rebus with Sixty, but I could not squeeze it in. With cloud nine I knew something was off. Finally, the revealer clicked and everything fell into place. Well done.

Can anyone else not see the circles easily? Luckily they didn’t matter for the solve, but it would be nice to have them more visible.

@Isabeau. I’ve never heard of lox on a latke either. These clues need to be realistic at least.

Now, if 34 across were actually 36 across, and 17 across were 16 across, the clues with the themed answers would all be perfect squares themselves (like 25 across) - and then the answer could have depended on those roots as well. Maybe for a future puzzle?

@Joey ALOP seems really forced here. Has anyone ever heard that word? The rest of the puzzle was good. No AM - funny.

@Times Rita A search function would be nice, right?

@Pezhead thank you. I was going to ask the same question. I couldn’t figure out how PALS was a source for lines except maybe you get fun stories from friends. And then SIC didn’t make much sense unless you yell out that something was wrong in the text. Doh!

@Brian Same thing happens to me. The puzzle closed when I only had three rebuses, although the revealer said there were four.

@Helen Wright I solve on an iPhone in dark mode. Even light mode isn't the best) I wish the circles were thinker lines or in bold or slightly shaded circles.

I was sure that a bottleful to clean ones clock would be WHOOPASS.

@Ryan Agreed. It’s hard to see the circles in dark mode. If I actually notice one, I have to switch to light mode, which isn’t good at night. (The green circles for the Wicked-themed puzzle were great.)
