I thought it was a fun grid! Even though I'm not from the US, I got through it without having to look anything up – the very first time on a Wednesday! I'm not familiar with the works of Bruno Mars, but the Beatles' sobriquet and the short Tennis match made me think there might something fun going on here. Enjoyable with a twist, I'm looking forward to Jacksons next construction!
Great puzzle! However I've noticed a small mistake. "Going Back to Cali" by LL Cool J was released in 1988 and not in 1998. A little confusing since a year earlier a song of the same name was released by The Notorious B.I.G.
This was the very first Thursday crossword where I figured out the f[ant]astic Rebus myself, without having to consult help online. Great puzzle, I enjoyed it a lot!!
What a lovely theme! And I managed to solve without lookups (for the first time on a Thursday!). Thank you for a great puzzle, Alex! I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.
I'm not sure I fully understand the theme (English is not my first language). I get that it's two longer words (which are the answers to the clues) split into three words. But I can't figure out the connection between the three separate words to the clues and/or answers. Is there even any or do the three separate answers have nothing to do with the clues?
@Mark You must've had another mistake somehwere else, because the puzzle ended for me without having written letters in the black squares. They just appeared once I filled in all the regular squares.
@Barry Ancona Thank you!! I thought I was missing something and kept scratching my head but I'm glad I had the right gut feeling.
@Andrzej I've been reading your comments daily and always look for them here in the forum. I don't know if you've mentioned it before, but you being a University Professor fills in a lot of gaps of the image I've constructed of you in my mind. Because the personality you present here reminds me so much of my favorite Professors during my time studying. Just thought I'd share, even though it's directly related to todays crossword.
@Matt Kopans I think it refers to a hair "clip", which can be used to keep up or "raise" a strand of hair
@Rob You can comment directly on Strands, google "Strands Sidekick" and you will find your way to the forum
@Sebastian I just found your comment and I actually wrote this comment before I finished as well! And yes I agree, it's absolutely more than a small mistake lol
@VN I thought so but the more I tried finding a (non existent) link, the more confused I got. Thank you!!
@Spring Day That one broke me too!
@Terry AVL NC Yay, it was mine too!!
@Andrzej Oh stop it, you're never gonna be able to stop yourself from commenting or even reading the comments! :D
