This puzzle made me unexpectedly emotional. My dear mother, may she rest in peace, loved playing games—especially Minesweeper on her old Mac desktop and the New York Times crossword. Seeing them joined together in today’s theme brought back so many memories of her. It was a bittersweet reminder of her joy in these little daily challenges, ones we often solved. Thank you for creating something that touched me so personally and let me feel close to her again, even if only for a moment.
The only thing I liked about this puzzle is… Nothing. There’s nothing I liked about this one.
This was no fun in the app. The info button could have been used to point out that this puzzle was best done on paper.
Can NYT start another forum for everyone who wants to post to complain puzzles being easy and/or uninspired? Let the grumps have their own turf please!
@Sandy I’m with you. There should be a separate forum for folks who want to complain about how easily they solved this puzzle or that other one.
@Mike R that’s a good point TOUCH ON since we’re going to have an opportunity to ELECT new representatives soon.
Please unalive this puzzle.
@B stop playing the NYT crossword. Start trying to solve Cryptic crossword puzzles instead. You’ll find the challenge you seek.
I’m always excited for a Saturday pizza and grateful to the creators. But I’m here today to kvetch - Two different sets of down/across clues leading to obscure names wasn’t my favorite.
@JohnWM definitely a word I was unaware of before completing the puzzle. Luckily I got the across words and it fit right.
@Eli Edwards I don’t recommend eating the puzzle but it’s your call…
@Charles Nelson Reilly agreed, I kept on looking for the images to be relevant to the answers
@Mark P I’m with you. 31 Across stumped me for a quite a while.
Solved the puzzle. Still don’t understand the theme. Please clue me in!
@Edith Maor, Skirt = skirt steak. Leaves are the salad. So a skirt with leaves is a steak salad Skirt steak was once considered an undesirable cut and you could get it for cheap but sadly it became trendy and now it’s pricier than a flank or a flat iron.
@SusanEM Thank you for your kind, caring and generous words!
Hi all, please help me understand how lesbian bar is the answer for she’s out there. I can’t say why, but it feels grammatically mismatched.
@Nancy I liked this one too! Mostly because it doesn’t rely on knowing random names. Atwood took me a bit if time but it didn’t unfair.
@Gregg, but doesn’t that happen whenever you shuffle a deck? Why call out a specific type of shuffle in the clues? I’m not asking you to answer for the creator. I just don’t get it. Nor do I understand why one pair wasn’t shuffled.
@Steve L thank you so much for the help. And, what is a dead tree edition?
@sotto voce hater rhymes with gator
I finished the puzzle correctly but I don’t understand the theme. Please clue me in!
@Gregg, thank you. I guess that’s clever.
