@LJADZ America had its first non-Protestant President in 1960. Only Van Buren, Polk, Eisenhower, Buchanan, Wilson, Kennedy, and Trump had no Anglo-Saxon heritage. America has had one nonwhite president ever. It's not all too inaccurate to say that WASPs in the US have held the power and wealth for the vast majority of its history. I'm sorry that you anecdotally might not have been part of that, but the group as a whole most definitely was.
Oh my god, I loved this puzzle so much. The first Thursday I was able to breeze through with only moderate difficulty! The theme stumped me for a little bit as none of my answers made sense, but 8A finally made it click when I got all of the answers crossing it. From there, it was a matter of re-arranging the letters in each of the themed entries! Thanks for this puzzle and I can't wait to see what else you have in store!
I know this one will be in a very different generation than many of the solvers, but thank you Phineas and Ferb for teaching me what the plastic thing on the end of the shoelace is called!
Felt more difficult than a typical Monday, and it was… because I had a typo in (conservative estimate) 1/5th of my answers! Sometimes the crossword kills you, and sometimes you do it yourself.
Loved this puzzle! A toughie for sure, but the theme was remarkably enjoyable and brought me back to my Freshman year philosophy classes! Prof. Nisenbaum should be more than happy that her GPA killer quizzes came of use somehow.
Loved this puzzle! A rebus which took a while to understand, but which gave me that AHA moment once I finally got it.
@OldNewbie "Fivers" = Abes because Abraham Lincoln is on the bill and "So is that___?" = ANO because it should be read as "A NO," but spaces are not included in a crossword. Glad you're joining us!
Finally broke 5 minutes with this one!
@WindowBlinds Yes, I believe that Southwest was not hampered due to running old software!
Such a fun puzzle! Was confused for a while at what a TEATEY was until GOLEM finally made it click for me. The M O/A NET clues made me chuckle a bit, especially since I lived on Manet Rd during my junior year of college.
@Nancy Prince started making music in the 70s and the referenced work was in the 80s. The Little Mermaid was released in 1989. I struggle to deem either of those "pop culture," and even if they were, pop culture is popularly known.
Absolutely adored this puzzle. The Parks and Rec clue really brought a smile to my face (if you haven't watched it yet, do yourself a favor and do so)! A new personal best for a Tuesday!
@Stephen I got them through crosses and figured I wouldn't worry about them until I had to!
@Gen X Seconded. Lazy mistake.
Four seconds off my fastest time... thank you for such an enjoyable puzzle!
