I believe this was the first Thursday puzzle I've solved with no hookups! Yay me!
"Bork" with no explanation as to it's derivation?
@Grant Thus the choice of a beaver as mascot. They are some of the best engineers in nature after all.
@Matt R. Agreed. I didn't think the clue and answer quite fit. Someone will probably correct me but ice seemed to be good for a drink but not for a drive. Icy?
@Steve Daniel The clue said (var.)
AWOL not the same as MIA, HBO has been called MAX for quite a while now. I expect you already know these things though.
MSG didn't throw me but the clue was a little off base. MSG is a flavor enhancer and not a flavor itself, no?
@Andrzej Badum-dum cymbal crash!
@Deb Amlen. Read the recent recommendations in Wirecutter regarding ant control!
@Steve L I knew I'd find an expert. I was going to chalk it up to the difference in the way we were taught years ago in elective Spanish to the way the language has evolved and spoken today..... as is always the case with language. Thanks for the clarification.
@Ken Chronographs are wonderful things, often beautiful pieces of art.
Correct me if im wrong but "Let's go Muchachos" = "vamanos", the plural form, not "vamos" which is 2nd person singular. Who am into get in the way of a crossword constructor though.
@Nancy Huh! And I thought I was just getting better at Thursday puzzles! I agree that there should be no dumbing down of Thursday challenges despite this one being about my speed. After all, one needs more difficulty in order to improve, and I have improved mightily, imo, in my three years of CW solving. I was pretty bad, lol.
More like a Tuesday puzzle! Fun though.
@Niki B If you go to an Asian restaurant, particularly Thai, and they have mock duck, mock chicken etc. on the menu, that is Seiten. It is very good but of course 100% gluten.
@Tony Apparently it is a word, as is cutest, but anyone who uses them should be shunned, imo. Lol
@The X-Phile As in Let's go..... let US go. Vamos means "go"
@ad absurdum Haha! And thanks. I guess I should have separated look and ups?
I've rarely heard "choppers" referred to as "chompers" though I admit choppers makes more sense.
@Barry Ancona Yes, "Statue looming over the ice rink at Rockefeller Center" would have been a pretty good clue, imo.
@Barry Ancona Duh! Of course. Commenting before thinking.
@Pax Ahimsa Gethen Yes, using watch as a verb. And i dont mean watch as in seeing either.
