Well, it definitely sets the tone for the month! Had a fun time!
My favorite clue of the bunch has to be 22A - Lottery commission? which of course resolves to DRAWINGBOARD. 65A- Yellow submarine? gets an honorable mention for CHICKENSANDWICH. Really enjoyed this one!
Very hard puzzle, but still enjoyable! (took me well over an hour to solve)
Okay I definitely got a chuckle out of FACTORFICTION.
Me trying to draw a Giraffe, NOWTHATSATALLORDER.... Fun puzzle otherwise
ROGER Roger, I COPY, OVER and OUT. Really enjoyed this one!
ICKY theme, okay I'll see myself out!
My weekend was full of DISSONANTCHORES, so I'll drink to that! The trick became clear after CONTROLLEDCHAPS, the circles no doubt gave it away easily. As always, was an enjoyable solve.
Was wondering what the theme was, then I was like wait these are world cup winners.... Sure enough.... Enjoyed this one, was an apt theme given what is going on right now.
Was a difficult solve for me. The theme didn't click until most of the puzzle was done, at which point I just face-palmed for feeling like an idiot. 10/10 would do again.
I once tried to TRIPLEJUMP but ended up face-planting in the sand....
Great, now I have Jump Around stuck in my head. All kidding aside, things went pretty smoothly. I had fun!
OH DEAR, here we go again! Was fun theme, all things considered.
The 2 clues leading to the one rebus square were fortunately easy to get, of course THEBIGAPPLE and SNAPPLE. Was a fairly fun solve.
Well, SOMEBODYSCRANKY (that would be me).
This felt easier than yesterday, but maybe I am alone in that assessment. But the theme definitely made me smile!
Things felt too good to be true after the upper half of the puzzle, then the bottom right happened...spent way too much time down there!
Was a fun Sunday puzzle, enjoyed the aha moment after 22A: HELEN OF TROY was filled in, which was also my favorite clue of the set (HOT woman worth fighting for).
I was torn between wAgE and RATE for 42A and penciled in wAgE but then quickly realized it wasn't going to work with GOTEAM, definitely went DOH after that but I did enjoyed being slightly tricked. Was a fun Tuesday!
Definitely gonna PARTYPARTYPARTY after that one!
55A and 48D made me smile, that is all I can really ask for when solving a crossword puzzle.
I dunno about everyone else, but after this one I am hungry!
Found it difficult to get started, but once I started filling in the bottom right and found CROCODILE TEARS things started to fill in nicely. Had to also make some corrections HoldTIGHT vs HANGTIGHT, caTFOOD to PETFOOD etc. Definitely was an enjoyable solve!
I don't about you guys/gals but I had fun with this one! Loved the theme.
Out here we have always called ROLLINGSTOPS California rolls (no, not the sushi!), but rolling stops makes more sense. I had also put HOLYMOlEy initially, but corrected it to HOLYMOSES after the botched EAlYREADS. Also got a kick out of 31D- They're filled with bacon? leading to ATMS!
POTOROO definitely tripped me up, but was fairly confident in crosses in the bottom half and the starting letter because of PHASES. Being given the letters definitely helped. IOTAS definitely did not get me, I have seen this type of clue before with chis and etas.
Took a bit longer than usual because I kept trying to make rEpS work instead of the correct SETS, soon realized that the former wasn't going to work and then everything fell into place. The aha moment was fun after iv LEAGUE, which made the other ones easy to solve.
Only reason I went with CRAWDADS instead of CRAWfish was because of the theme, I had OLDMANANDTHESEA by that point. But duet for PAIR almost tricked me if it wasn't for the cross of 13D being BRO. Was a cute, and apt, theme.
This was a difficult solve for me today. Picked up on the theme after most of the puzzle was done, at which point I just face-palmed for feeling like a complete fool! 10/10 would do again
The aha moment on the theme was after filling in PLUSSIGN from other answers and noticing the start of DOLLAR in 24A, looked at my keyboard and sure enough.... What a fun and clever theme!
Was pretty tricky for me, but BANANASEAT, ROGUEWAVE and CISTERN really opened up the right side of the puzzle for me.
Been about 25 years since I last used DOPE as slang for cool, surprised it immediately popped up in my mind. This felt like a run of the mill Monday puzzle.
Enjoyed the theme, however now I want a drink and its too early.... Oh well.
Had a typo in the grid, that was fun to find in the end. But other than that, things went pretty smoothly.
Middle left of the puzzle was the last to fall, for some reason those answers just didn't "click" it fell only after I got KILWITHKINDNESS. But I did enjoy today's puzzle.
The PARTOFSPEECH theme was pretty clever. This also was the first time I have ever heard of the term ROBOTSUMO (which made me chuckle).
How about this for a par 4: Paralegalparallelparksparlor partnerpartyparasailparasol I tried!
This Saturday was a bit easier for me today, so I'll take it. Now I am just waiting to get completely stumped by next weeks Saturday puzzle!
Good Tuesday puzzle, enjoyed the shenanigans of 50A!
@Marlene Welcome to the future!
I definitely did get fooled by DO NOT enter for 3D and capybara for 15D but I realized those wouldn't work when I suspected 22A was going to be TEEM. The middle (36 and 37A) fell pretty quickly for me after some crosses were filled in, but 32A took awhile.
The theme definitely brought back memories of youth sports and was nice and simple to deduce. However, EMEND is a term I was not familiar with so it definitely made me second guess my crosses. But as more was filled in it become obvious to me that it was correct.
I definitely got my butt kicked on this one! But glad I finally completed it.
Caught on to the theme after doing a double take after filling in BRAPADS and TERRAINS but still used the crossing clues to confirm the initial guesses to the other theme answers (STONEPIT and FINEMIST primarily). Was a fun one!
Being able to deduce the longer answers with a few crosses really helped me fill in some of the corners. The one exception was the bottom right corner which I was able to fill in nicely which led to OREGON and that with the crosses CONEYISLAND OPINES and DANA pointed to PORTLAND....
@Peter ADIN has thankfully been a staple of crossword puzzles. As for ___Point, calif. as a Southern Californian the Points that immediately sprang to mind were Point Mugu (which couldn't be it because of the ordering of words) and Dana Point. But I can definitely see that tripping up people who are not familiar with the area (or have an encyclopedic knowledge of Points in Ca).
