SHINEDSHIELDDELIVERED is one of the funniest crossword answers ever. Bravo.
Well DRAFTBEERS and DPLUS made perfect sense to me…
@NobodyThree Coming from the book publishing biz, I’m so surprised to find that no one seems to know the COZY MYSTERY genre.
@Gregg COZY MYSTERY is a fairly common genre in modern lit.
@Aaron I’m sure your parents, Ayn Rand and God, are proud of you.
@MWC Seems perfectly fine to me. It’s just a tool. Saying you can’t use AI for the grunt work would be like banning a dictionary. Ultimately the creativity still comes from a human.
Eh - very easy once you figure out the gimmick and at the end you end up with a mess of a grid. Not my favorite.
Record Monday time for me
@Joe Since moving to Sacramento, the team has been known simply as the Athletics, without a preceding city name. Consequently, they appear as ATH on scoreboards. This has become a point of contention for Sacramentans, who are miffed that the organization refuses to lean into its new home, even if the stay is only temporary.
@Vaer I didn’t go to the best schools
@Moops Also, it clearly states in 112 across that a dashed line is found in five places in the puzzle. You putting something other than dashes is your error, not a technical failure.
@Mark Why would there be a slash? Both letters are used both vertically and horizontally.
Yes, I put a piece of paper over my phone and drew the image. Actually helped me solve the SW corner. 🦆🐇
Legos Legos Legos Legos. And a million heads just exploded.
My best ever Thursday @ 14:39. Fun solve!
@Francis “Welsh” is in quotes because it’s not meant literally - it’s just flagging the familiar phrase “Welsh rarebit.”
@Charlie It clearly states in 112 across that a dashed line is found in five places in the puzzle. You putting something other than dashes is your error, not the fault of an arbitrary coding decision.
I might be the only one dumb enough to try to get REGGAE to fit in 5 down, even though the clue clearly asks for the genre of movie not of the artist. Consequently, some arcane spelling of dredge without the second ‘d’ seemed in order for 18 across: WHYDREGEITUP 🤦♂️
@Rory Never seen Back to the Future or Karate Kid? Need to brush up on your 80s classics!
Considering it’s impossible to buy a half bag of TRIX, I’m not sure I love the “bulk” cluing.
@Stiiv whoops - thought I was talking to Siri
@EC Maybe you should update their Wikipedia entry then…
@Joe That’s simply incorrect. Since 2025, the team has played in Sacramento under official MLB guidelines that mandate they be listed as ATH on all scoreboards and schedules. They are no longer "OAK," and because they aren't in Nevada yet, they have never been "LAS." You can verify this on any 2025 box score. They are the only team in the league currently using a mascot-based acronym instead of a city code.
@Bill in Yokohama Well that’s embarrassing!
@Jeff Z This tripped me up too. The answer is that there is no connection to locksmith at all. It’s just a setup for the ironic part of the clue. It could have just as easily been clued as a different profession involved in a steamy and ironic situation.
@Lynn Understood. My point is that it could have easily been clued as something like "A firefighter setting off the sprinklers on date night?".
@Blurry So bizarre that we also lost Rob Reiner today…
@Mehitabel hopefully we’ll get a “Republicans and fascists” clue next. Seems only fair.
