@Teresa, I had the same response at first, and then caught the double meaning of “out.”

I stumbled over ‘70s Ford, as Galaxy was far, far away from GERALD.

This one stumped me. I wouldn’t have finished but for a couple of lookups and the gimmes in the Wordplay column. It’s nice to have an occasional reminder like this that I’ve got lots of room for improvement before considering myself a skilled NYT crossword solver. (If that day ever comes, maybe I’ll take another crack a the British cryptics.)

How delightful for two of my obsessions to collide with this Tour de France NYT crossword! (Hopefully everyone’s collar bones are OK.) Alas, the timeline for creating and publishing puzzles made it impossible for this puzzle to feature the great surprise of this year’s Tour, Eritrean rider Biniam Girmay.

@Phishfinder, me too. After 10 minutes of trying to find my error, I went to the column and learned I was supposed to fill in my answers.
