Why would Olympic divers be proud of those any more so than any other athlete?
@Kathy well the clue wording is “Hit 1976 album…” so the year in the clue is referring to when the album came out, not when the Grammy was awarded. The album came out in December 1976. The title track was released as a single in February 1977, hence why it won at the Grammys in 1978 (which covered content from 1977). No typo.
Cool puzzle but my vision is perfectly fine and even I struggled with keeping track of where the active clue was in the app.
Rowers use oars, not paddles.
When I saw “person living in London” I briefly thought about the city in Ontario, being from Ontario myself. But even I dismissed that immediately because it was too obscure for the NYT crossword. Fun fact, Ontario also has a Paris, Dublin, Brussels, Stratford. Used to have a Berlin too but it got renamed in 1916.
@Alan Non-real as in not in the set of “real” numbers, which excludes “imaginary” numbers.
@Clem the recurrence of clues like that happens on basically every day
@dizzyspins this is not a rebus puzzle
@Strudel Dad yes but for the down clue the FIVE is forwards. It’s inconsistent.
Patting myself on the back for remembering how to spell 38A with practically no crossing downs yet.
You do not oar a canoe, you paddle.
@Rachel S Rebuses Some of the squares contain multiple letters that relate to the theme. This is extra common on Thursdays. Welcome aboard!

@Andrzej it’s quite pedantic to make a distinction between “a Degas” and “Degas” in the context of a crossword puzzle. The clue with the answer ”MONET” is representative of the actual painting itself, thus the “a” is implied.
@Xword Junkie in my Chrome browser (mac) the clue list shows the text in a line, but the clue in the blue rectangle above the puzzle has it in rows
@Mike maybe try logging in on a browser to see what happens / if it helps?
@Bonnie Ann "grey day quality"
@Dan if you don't want to write it down on paper, you could have just put the missing letter in the Notes app or something.

@Byron sauna is quite popular in Iceland too.
Is “sword” in that context really a euphemism?
SKATER AT? Did I parse that right?
37A I thought it was a no no to use words from the clue ( “can” ) in the answer…?
@Karen Robinson Also this was already pointed out in the comments for that day
Etre is the infinitive of the verb “to be” It doesn’t mean “are”, which would be “sont” if anything.
