Densely studded with truly clever clues. An exceptionally rewarding Thursday puzzle.
Tough, sly misdirects, nicely chewy, and surprisingly quick after all the blanks I had at the first pass through. Satisfying Saturday.
It was pretty chewy for a Wednesday, yet clueing was clever, and answers worked themselves out. A wonderfully entertaining Wednesday puzzle.
What a joy of a solve. The original words of the poem providing structure, the sly misdirects, and the tongue-in-cheekiness of the translation challenged and amused this solver. Congratulations and thanks, Joe!
A cleverly-constructed Sunday puzzle that was fun to do.Thank you!
A clever theme quickly done. A pleasure of a Tuesday puzzle.
I found the theme delightful. Enjoyable Tuesday puzzle.
Any enjoyable struggle. Slow start looking for toeholds, then a smooth and rapid finish. So rewarding to see Wheatley remembered. Thank you for the most delightful Friday.
Gosh, this was a hard one. Well over my Saturday average, but the best struggle I've had in years. Some very clever clueing and misdirects. Thanks for the workout!
This was definitely NOT in my wheelhouse! I struggled and finished 35 minutes over my average. Great challenge! It feels good to have a tough workout.
A clever but rewarding challenge. My biggest difficulty was landing on "nega" as a prefix.
The clever theme and range of knowledge required by the clues provided an enjoyable weekend puzzle. Well done!
Clever construction, clever clueing, and lots of fun. Good work out!
What a delightful Wednesday puzzle! The answers came readily, but the way clues related to the theme popped up throughout the puzzle felt like finding little nugget after little nugget of gold in a rippling stream.
An extremely quick Saturday solve.
It was fun, a little Dr.Seuss-ian, and super quick.
@Marcia Fidler There is a place to report an error on the scoring. Dipon't give up hooe just yet. And congratulations on making it to a 1,000 day streak!!
First it was awful, and then it wasn't. FINALLY got a toehold after many frustratingly empty squares. The back-stretch went surprisingly quickly. Loved this challenging Saturday puzzle.
I was so entertained doing this puzzle. It wasn't easy for me, as it apparently was for others, Heck, it took me 50% longer than my average. But the concept was so clever, and the misdirects so sly, I couldn't help but enjoy it the entire time that it took to hear the happy music.
It didn't fill in easily, but in the end it went rather quickly. Nice construction.
@StinkyCheez Stirrup refers to a tiny bone in the inner year
Saturday's puzzle was as easy Friday's was hard for me. Finished in a few minutes. I'll take the win today after sweating it out yesterday!!
My hopes for more challenging puzzle for Saturday in light of the easy peasy Friday we just had have been dashed. What's with the easy weekend puzzles? Where is the chew??
Tough and chewy...a perfect Saturday challenger
Gosh, I enjoyed this puzzle. Just the right amount of challenge, cleverness, and wit.
Such a fresh puzzle...I loved the clever misdirection of the clues.
Sparkling Friday puzzle that flew by like a breeze
I was sailing along delighted with the slippery clues. Surprisingly quickly, I filled in the last square and...no music. I spent 2 feverish minutes more as the clock ticked away, fly-specking every clue and word. I groaned when I realized the answer was one letter different from "anyhow". Missed my Tuesday personal best, but loved the puzzle.
Not a significant challenge, but I found the clueing and theme delightful in view of upcoming Dad's Day on Sunday. I finished rather quickly, but with a grin on my face.
What a clever, fun puzzle! I was delighted by the construction and theme. A bit more challenging than a typical Sunday, but that added to my enjoyment.
Such a fun puzzle! An unusually enjoyable Wednesday. Clever construction.
A clever theme cleverly clued. Thoroughly satisfying Thursday wordplay.
So clever and so fun! A very bright and merry Thursday. Well done!
The solve was rather quick, but the clever theme phrases made for a satisfying Sunday. Well done!
So challenging and so wonderful! Extremely chunky and chewy for a Sunday, and such a feeling of a good hard win.
Lot's of fun with clever double definitions. Great Tuesday!
@Lauren Clearly the NYT puzzle including niche words from all areas of culture and demographics past and present is not for you. For myself, I'm interested in expanding my knowledge, and it's ok for me to learn something new.
This puzzle startled me. Instead of the clever misdirects and nuanced clues of a typical Thursday that provide a delightful challenge, this puzzle pedantically telegraphed the answers with visual cartoons. It reminded me of worksheets in grade school where an image was placed with a blank, and one needed to spell out the word.
Smooth march across and down. Clever construction...very straightforward cluing.
Some creative clueing. A light and breezy Saturday.
An amusing and satisfying theme for this breezyTuesday puzzle.
I came of age in the 70's...psilocybin was definitely a familiar word to college students across the nation.
A shockingly easy Friday. I wasn't rushing, and finished in half my average time. I hope Saturday's puzzle puts up more of a fight.
Wow! What an incredible job the author did in creating this puzzle! The execution of the concept was phenomenal. From a solver's point of it was a stinker following twists and turns. Gradually the lights grew brighter and I found my way. A strong background in art history was helpful. The most difficult Sunday puzzle I've seen in years. A gifted constructor--a hard-earned finish.
Quick, fresh, fun. Well dobe!
@Eric Would you be willing to say why?
What a delightful Monday puzzle. Creative concept and Intriguing construction. Well done, constructors!
A pretty chewy and very enjoyable Tuesday puzzle. Thanks for a pleasurable break!
Not the most challenging puzzle, but the theme provided an enjoyable spark. Clever constructors!
A lot of little snips and snags, but a surprisingly rapid finish. Enjoyed the chew.
