I can live with the theme (maybe even enjoy it), but calling SETI a subj. is just a bridge too far.

Never having met a magic 8-ball IRL, I had to solve this one without having to count on the theme. And I won't forget again that it is Michael Cera and John Cena, and not the other way around. P. S. Yes, I did look at the Wikipedia page.

Don't usually comment, but have to appreciate this clever puzzle. Minor nit, the lack of highlighting of the artist clue when the clue being stolen from did make it a slower solve. My time was over 8 minutes slower than my Sunday average.

Very neat Puzzle, *To be fair. I have to say that after yesterday's Chromebook CLUE in the Mini and today's IOERROR clue, I am beginning to feel that us Windows users are getting no love around here. I/O errors are not just a PC issue and may have nothing to do with disks. JUST(ICE) for PC users.

Smooth solving other than a few early missteps (I always SEETHE before I SEE RED). Didn't really use the theme or even see it till I was done. I am much more Seinfeld than Friends, but it was punny enough when I got it.

Brilliant Puzzle and my best Sunday by over 7 minutes. I hope I am not an EGOIST for saying that I did it at TOPSPEED. Some clever clues, COMPANY CARD next to the COUNTRIES the business travelers visit, and the cross of COMEOUT and CLOSET stood out to me.

Can I just say RIGHT BRACE and not UPPER BOUND? Like, the very long set of Proper names {ELIA, ZINN, RFK, REDD, MARLO, RENATO, EAZY-E, KOBE} ends with it.

@Neil Bellinson I know what SETI is (I was actually offered a research position in the program after my PhD). It is not a subject according to any definition of the word subject. It is however a (set of) research program(s), a loosely knit science organization, or a scientific endeavor. A clue like "Org. searching using telescopes" would be accurate. NYT Thursdays need to hold the bar high.

And the McDonald clue was a true winner.

Minesweeper! Loved the game, love this puzzle! And the cross of HIS EMINENCE and Mine ALL MINE could be a minefield.

Enjoyable, but easy Saturday. I improved my Saturday best by over a second and better than my Friday best. Loved the cluing for ARMREST.

I am still groaning at the clues on this one. Too many sloppy "close enough" ones to make it enjoyable, I'll chalk it up to the tryptophan and move on.

What a delightful debut. And while I might cavil about ANTEGGs being popular (never had 'em), that would just be a bore. But I do have a major boen to pick about the mini: MacBooks are Personal Computers just as much as Chromebooks are. I beg rhe NYT xword team to stop buying into the Apple propaganda and take a stand for the equality of personal computing platforms.

My first word had a fair bit of alone time, LENDER for LEASER was a bit of a stumble, but I eventually held serve and came in well under my Friday average.

Tough one with a few really nice misdirections. I had ORE for ROE and NO TRASH instead of NO TRACE. Slow start, but enough in there for me to get the sole going. Never having been to Rochester, I did not know that it was north of Buffalo. 61D made my day, though. Masterful clue. What way to underline the puzzle.

@SamG Totally forgot to mention the clever use of the circled letters. Just DROPped It, I guess.

Had this one done in under 18 minutes and then spent nearly 7 minutes hunting for an error before finding that I had typed "KIT/ KAT" with an extra space in one of the rebuses. Delightful puzzle, but argh!!

@R.J. Smith that tripped me up too. It is indeed a rebus.

@Kelly we can always confidently claim that we will. Till the next time we see CE_A in a crossword anyways.
