@Aaron A dictionary definition: Profane describes behavior, language, or items that are disrespectful, irreverent, or contemptuous toward sacred, holy, or religious things. There is a current and all too prominent example of this in the newspaper today...and it isn't the crozzword!
Nuts! Would have had an excellent Saturday effort (for me) had I not overconfidently checked my 24D answer early on - "shoved down the throat of" . Had FO..... and finished it with FORCEDFED. A clever and deliberate feint by the constructor, I wonder? Otherwise, no look-ups and a smooth 30 minute ride to the finish. Excellent puzzle.
Maybe it's just me!? I completed the puzzle in good time before I even noticed there were circled letters. Thus the "theme" was lost on me. (Is that a non-sequitur?). Has happened before. Cute x-word, but are "themes" really needed for Mondays' 'quickies'?
@Mr Bill: and correct answer to Mediterranean plant with brightly colored flowers is "rosedesoleil"......Just sayin'....{ ;-)
Had an otherwise short, smooth-sailing, and flawless Saturday, when I got too hasty with INXS, and did a reveal - also too hasty! I'll blame it on my wife who is Australian! Crash blossom? In all my years, have never come across that term! Still...good to know that I can still learn something new every day.
@Jake G I remember driving across the so-called "dairy state" many years ago. Stopped a a roadside cafe....had to ask for butter instead of the margarine offered, and even had to ask for real milk/cream instead of the non-dairy horror they expected me to spoil my coffee with. Hopefully, they've upped their game since then! Just sayin'.
@Anita Never heard of the board game. Am I missing something? { ;-)
@Francis Ditto with catching it early, only for me it was mothere.......
@Nancy In concert with your comment: I'm not a brilliant puzzler - my average Sat. is probably a 50-60min solve - but completed this one in 26:25. Maybe my best ever! Having said that, other commenters have found it pretty tough, and so I think I was just lucky to be in the 'flow'! Like you, never heard of "digital shorts" nor "chase blossom", nor can I see the connexion to an ambiguous headline! (anyone?). So I was quick - with the exception of the southwest corner, all the long crosses just flowed for me - but i did make one mistake which ruined my day - I'll blame it on my Australian wife!, putting in INXS and doing a quick 'reveal' (was SO sure!), because a Saturday Night Live feature that wasn't 'live' had to be an X-rated something! Ouch!
@SP Kicked myself! Had __OTTY and put in SP then foolishly hit "reveal". Otherwise, pretty easy sailing for a mediocre solver.
