I've been known to complain about a Thursday puzzle now and then, but no complaints today. I liked it.
Three easy peasies in a row no doubt confirms that tomorrow will be a bear.
I'm not sure which is worse, accessory dwelling unit or referring to it as an ADU. In the first case it's pretentious, and in the second it suggests, to me at least, that we've gone overboard with abbreviations.
I've attended cocktail parties that made me feel as if I'd wandered into an uncanny valley.
@Jason K STP does indeed market motor oil.
I got ATA but didn't get it until I read the explanation. And as others have surely noted, TSA bin is not terminology I've ever heard but it makes sense.
Jib sails are mentioned in Moby-Dick and that is all I know about them.
@Mark Some puzzles seem like they will never fill, and it's easy to get a little anxious. But then you see something and that something helps you see something else and before you know you're off to the races.
For what this is a worth, rarely used words like SLEEKEN can't help but look gimmicky. They're the golf equivalent of a par 5 that won't let you hit driver from the tee box.
I've been advised while in NYC to put my wallet somewhere other than in my hip pocket because pickpockets are, presumably, a problem. As for the clue, it doesn't suggests that hip pockets are the only places to put a wallet, just one of the places. Some guys I know put their wallets in their man purses.
Two very easy puzzles to begin the week so I'm girding my loins, metaphorically speaking, for Thursday and Friday.
@john ezra Thought it was only me. Good to know I'm not alone.
@Crispus Attucks All depends. I've had Brie that was gooey and spreadable right out of the fridge. I've also had Brie that was not spreadable an hour after coming out of the fridge. So I agree that this clue needed more work.
@Times Rita When we speak of a thing that "covers a fair amount of ground" we are typically referring to something that is supposed to move, so the clue is a misdirection. Or at least that is how I took it.
Neither easy nor difficult, and no rebus! As for Dede Allen, come on. I could see if she had just diied maybe.
@FWIW the letters e-r-i-n appear in that order in the clue. See the words "her" and "in."
I solved today's puzzle .9845319% faster than usual. New record!
@Larry "That'd" in crosswords puzzles is sister (or brother) to "It'd."
@Nancy J. I've always solved in ink which forces me to be a little more cautious than I might be if using a pencil. I've also found that the erasers on pencils these days dry out and become useless much faster than they used to do.
@Helen Wright I no longer receive email confirmation of posts or responses even though I've checked the "Email me when my comment is published . . . "
@Roberta I think in that case Americans would be more likely to say restroom.
Finished both the LATimes and NYTimes puzzles very quickly this morning, and if that means they're easy I'm definitely OK with that.
@T Jones No, I'm saying that if she had been in the news recently.
