Wonderful puzzle. Clever clueing. Loved bendy straw, nuclear pact, and Bonsai tree! Very do-able for a Saturday.

I agree with so many others that this is a perfect Friday puzzle. A good workout, doable, and no names. As for Tuesday, I think it was a good puzzle - just run on the wrong day. Not the fault of the constructor! The degree of challenge did make me check the calendar to see if the weekend had arrived.

Having just stopped skiing after 40 happy years enjoying the sport, I was glad to ride the lifts again. I like that “raise the bar” is snuck into the puzzle at 16 and 17 across. Nice touch!

@Laura Stratton My wife and I do Thursday-Sunday together. That feels less like cheating than resorting to Google. And solving a challenging puzzle like today’s is still very satisfying.

@Chungclan TAB at first. With YODA. I said, it really couldn’t be BAREASS for 34D, could it? CONAN and other crosses put us on the right track!

@Heidi I agree that ETCHASKETCH & STONEHENGE were the best. Excellent cluing throughout. A nicely challenging Friday.

Thank you, Deb, for your warm, moving remembrance and tribute to your dad. Today’s Wordplay column will not be forgotten. I am sorry for your loss, but glad that you had your dad for so many years.
