@litterbug Easy, just check the possible factors in the other direction at the same time. There is only one unique solution to each four-square.
How embarrassing that a puzzle by a musician would misclue Audio Jack. An audio PLUG is one end of a headphone cable. An audio jack is the female part; it might be 'found at the end' of a cable, but it is not 'one end'.
Since the Eames couple were a team, only a clue of "Chairman or Chairwoman" would seem acceptable.
@Peter C I guessed a slash between and it was accepted, but the discussion makes clear that even just one of the two-letter combos would result in a successful solve.
@Cat Lady Margaret Not a SPUD BUD?
@Wr Technically, we are called "sons of Eli", outside of crossword puzzles.
@Dorothy 9:43 to fill the grid. 2 extra minutes to figure out it wasn't Ramis.
A tyre is not a wheel! Such a lack of understanding of the language. Or of mechanics. Someone should really edit these clues.
too much crosswordese; almost don't need to read the clues, can just put in standard answers based on a few letters. And achieve, just barely, a personal best at 2'52".
While long objects can certainly be said to have two ends, to a string player, the only 'end' of the bow is its tip. The frog, held in the hand, is the start of the bow, not 'one end'. If you are going to give that a pass, think of the 'end of a sword'. That would be a poor clue for its hilt.
@Patrick J. Like me you probably would require an across answer with a tilde to require a down answer with a tilde.
@Steve L PI followed by two esses.
@Jeb Jones Rorem has been an NYT answer 1,000 times.
@Chandra on a computer, hit escape key to enter the square and type whatever you need, and escape again to exit.
@Fritz yesm, me too. 6:33, which is close to my Wednesday average.
@Suzan Overtimes. It's a sports thing.
@Jayant Not so much punny as referring to something else: the square 'swings' for across and down. It's a poor pun which is just using a known phrase to indicate an unrelated thing. Just a single entendre.
@Eli Edwards If you are going for speed, you can hit the escape key to enter the square and type whatever you want. Faster than getting to the Rebus button and back ;)
@Nathan 12:49 for me, but then once you are looking for the rebus, it falls into place.
@Eli Edwards hit the escape key to enter multiple letters, and escape again to accept.
@Alita Shaver either answer by itself will work, as well as both, with or without the slash!
