This was my 1,000th consecutive NYT crossword puzzle! My husband and I will have a fun dinner at a New York-style deli today to commemorate it. (He wanted to surprise me with a trip to NYC, but we’ll do it when the weather and our schedules permit—I’ve been away for too long). I may try to continue the streak, but I think I can just enjoy the puzzles without worrying about missing a day, now. Enjoyed this puzzle, and early on hoped it would not matter in what order I entered the “ei”s or “ie”s. Was excited at the end when I got the gold star and didn’t have to go back and enter both versions in each square. I started doing the NYT crossword puzzles during the pandemic. It helped keep me sane, and has become an important part of my life. Thank you to all the regular commenters. Although I don’t often post, I enjoy the discussion tremendously.
Cute and clever, As a birder, enjoyed all the birds.
@Tom Bantle, I think they were referencing a sand castle.
Really enjoyed this one. Thank you to the constructor. Fun and just challenging enough for a Sunday.
@Randolph Phonetically that “dic” would sound like “dish.” I hope that helps. (I thought the same thing for a while until I said it out loud as part of “judicious”).
Loved this puzzle. What a great debut. Thank you!
Loved this Saturday puzzle. Perhaps I was on the same wavelength as the constructor, but I still found it challenging in places. “Grammy alternative” was a fun one, and I learned something new from “wabi sabi,” which I got from the crosses. Thank you, Mr. McDermott!
Enjoyed the trickiness (although I didn’t agree with vein as a place to get shots). I ended up getting it all and appreciating the secret passages (which I first had as “hidden” passages, until the crosses). It took twice my average time for Thursdays, so a difficult one for me. (And, I haven’t broken my streak yet, even though I anticipated breaking it when we went to Big Bend in February—up to 1084! Even though I gave myself permission to break the streak after 1000, it is too much of a fun habit).
@Rich in Atlanta thank you for that old crossword link. I believe they wanted us to see “day and night,” “Amos and Andy,” and “rock and roll.” I really enjoyed today’s puzzle.
@Sue, thank you so much for your comment! That was the only thing between me and the happy music. Same answer as you, originally.
@Gary, congratulations! (Also, I enjoyed this puzzle—thank you, August)
