Possible error: SEN is not a Japanese penny. The Japanese penny is the yen, and it's usually approximately 100 yen to the dollar. The sen coin was discontinued in 1945 and demonetized in the 50s, and was always worth 1/100 of a yen (1/100 of a penny, essentially). I guess it could be spun that it's still "like the penny" in that both are now discontinued, though?
@Captain Quahog That's all true! I guess I was mostly thrown off because the SEN hasn't existed for a long time, and in Japan, for many decades now, the 1 yen coin has functioned the same as a penny.
