One clue asking about Steely Dan and I’m listening to their songs for an hour! So fun! Thanks!
Loved this puzzle! Not so difficult but original, quirky and perky! If it referenced a writer or celeb I didn’t know, i could usually get the grid filled going the other way. I almost try not to fill my brain with obscure sports or film celebrities so my 61-year old brain will remember new work stuff! So thanks for that! Fun!
So enjoyed today’s puzzle! ALL THE HINTS MADE SENSE! When a hint is poor or makes little sense, I feel my time is wasted. So I love, love, love this puzzle. More from this writer. Please!?
Saturday’s puzzle was terrible. How is “take out order” “dele”? And “abbrv” nor “slang” is given as a part of what must be local NYC slang. Sloppy clue writing! And much did not make sense!
@Phil no, Saturday’s puzzle was a white hot mess on my side of the pond too! (USA/VA) It’s not you, it’s the puzzle. Lol
@Justin but funny and guessable!
Loved the puzzle…very punny, my sense of humor, and probably from my birth year, 1963 (the author). BUT CAN’t SOLVE ON AN IPHONE. MAJOR FAUX PAS NYT! I BET 60+% OF YOUR SOLVERS SOLVE ON AN IPHONE AND YOU CAN’t GET AN EQUAL SIGN ON AN IPHONE. YES I’m annoyed. Now learn from your mistake and don’t ever repeat it!!!! OR BETTER YET FIX IT so it doesn’t permanently ruin my score. Talk about not knowing your audience!
From now on please tell your software writers to put the puzzle’s title at the top of the online puzzle. It is not fair that I have to look at your “i” essay section to find out the title of the puzzle. It is ridiculous the way it is currently set up. Also I hated so many of the clues in this puzzle. Many are just wrong! For instance “tenured profs, often” solves to PHDS. Do you know anything about higher education these days? No one is a tenured Prof at any good school without a PHD. NO ONE.
Why wasn’t the clue *Book of Mary and DASKAPITAL explained?
Regarding Connections today: you know over half of the population playing has never seen analog tv???? Poor choice of category imho.
Another poor clue from Saturday’s puzzle: 13 down should have added (obsolete). Sloppy clue writing.
@Ash yes, I commented that NYT should splurge on paying a software writer for one day so that online folks can be shown a Title above the Crossword. Good idea, right? It would probably cost one hour of $100 for a s/w writer to put in a Title field.
@EmmaDthat’s a little cold about the coffins and Chandler.
