@Cathi I agree with you, Deb's tribute to her dad was touching, and brought back my own memories. My mother was the crossword maven; she would cut the crossword out of the paper so it was easier for her to work on. She would carry it in her purse when she was waiting at the doctor's office....she loved knowing rarely used words that appeared frequently in the puzzle (example: "pismire"!) As she grew older, she started falling behind, and I would find stacks of half-finished crosswords around her apartment. It was on Christmas night ten years ago that she died, and I'm a digital subscriber (so, no evidence lying around my house), but I owe my love of crossword puzzles to her.
I hate the fact that by the time I sit down in the evening to solve the puzzle it's gone, and you've already replaced it with tomorrow's puzzle. :(
@surfertom007 Shakshuka is a great alternative to meat for dinner, but wait until the cost of eggs go down, any day now.
The answer to 50 Across is peelerreview, which reduces to "peel review" when you remove the EL. What, exactly, is a peel review? That confused me. Otherwise, a fun Sunday solve.
