Sydney
Great puzzle, but.. Gotta say, Sydney is the worst place in Australia to be running around saying g’day mate to people. Try saying howdy pardner at your local bagel shop in NYC. On second thoughts, come on over , put some corks on the old akubra, hit up a Darlinghurst cafe and put on your best croc Dundee accent. It’ll definitely break the ice.
Legendary puzzle. Spent a while thinking the missing letters were in the toppings. Then that the crust had been cut off. Then at last the obvious hit me - stuffed crust. Thursdays are far and away my fav. The more meta the better.
@B Don’t get me wrong, I wish more Sydneysiders said stuff like g’day mate. I moved here from Brisbane years ago and I miss the laid back friendliness of Brisbane sometimes. Although there are many great things about Sydney. I just find the idea of saying gday mate in a broad country accent to strangers around here quite funny. Although to be fair I still say gday a lot. Maybe my example in NY wasn’t the best chosen. Merely trying to point out that stereotypical national idioms can sound amusingly out of place in big cities anywhere in the world. Which was kind of the whole joke with the movie crocodile Dundee. And I’m not being sarcastic when I say that people would love a usa tourist pulling out a cheesy gday mate in an inner city cafe.
Hey, a knighthood is an honour, not an honour! I know you guys have your own folksy way of spelling stuff, but last time I heard there weren't too many knighthood being given out in the US of A.
Legend!!! That was a great idea. Must have taken some time to come up with those clues.
Hey! Who are you calling middle aged!?!?
@Barry Ancona. If you want to adhere to the facts, sure…
Critter? I would have thought it was a bit too large to be called a critter…
@B where else are you going to put the power lines (wires)? If you can tell my why a gym is elliptical then we’re even.
We Card? I didn't really feel like a Thursday puzzle. It had a theme, but no tricks.
@Francis a lot of people in Sydney think they're too posh. Also everyone's too stressed by the cost of living to be friendly. And it's a very multicultural city with different ethnic groups who have their own vernacular. Having said that, people who arrive from places like London still seem to think we're comparatively friendly, so maybe we're not all bad?

Is Minnesota nice a real thing or only in Fargo? Do you have turns of phrase that wouldn't really work in big cities?
@Tony me neither, I'm an air conditioner. ICE COOL baby!!!
I love a good spoonerism. Nearly as much as I love a cat on the punt.
