Quick and fun – and for once I figured out the trick without brain pain :-D. I'm amazed the columnist had never heard of DRUB, as DRUBBING is a common sports term, for example: The Montréal Canadiens took a DRUBBING from the Toronto Maple Leafs the other night, as they blew a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period, and lost 7-3. (Apologies to the Habs fans LOL LOL)
What a fun puzzle! We nailed it in a bit over 45 minutes. Nice rebus action, and some good puns. I chuckled at the inclusion of Taylor Swift, Black-eyed Peas, and Encanto all in one puzzle – bit of recent pop hit history. Hope Mr. Shortz is recovering well. Yes, I notice a difference. No, it's not the end of the world, nor of my subscription :-)
Fun, and done in less than an hour while watching the goldfinch swarming the feeders on my deck. They're turning yellow again - spring is near! Kudos to the author for his innovative thinking - and his sense of humour. (We did have to google New Jersey's city, as neither of us has ever heard of it ... sorry about that.)
Great fun – thanks to the constructors and editors for their hard. work! We laughed loudly more than once, and the cat glared :-)
Thank you so much for this absolute delight of a puzzle! My partner and I are both Times crossword aficionados and hockey fans, with season tickets to our city's team. This was perfection – particularly centre ice and the final animation!
@Shan I could have written this comment myself, word for word! Fun solve, though.
Oh Deb, so sorry to hear! So much crap flying around – COVID, true flu, viral pneumonia – and so many of us with post-COVID weakened immune systems. Fingers crossed you are being well-pampered, and will be well for Christmas (or New Years Eve, at least!)
Oh how lovely to see Will’s name! (And Sam - some of those clues were pure evil!)
Fun puzzle! Thanks to Ms Lin and the editors :)
@Pamela NYT crossword puzzles serve up excellent rabbit holes 😂
Brilliant! Thank you so much.
@Mean Old Lady Psst - the Mounties are the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) :-)
@Richard Robertson Or never gone to a hockey or football game – those bands songs have become SUCH sport anthems.
@sotto voce That was a great performance – never saw that particular one before. (But man, were they EVER high –even as a child of that era, I can't imagine how you can do that many drugs and still play like that :-D ) I saw them on the '78 Rumours tour at the CNE Stadium in Toronto, hot summer night, with a breeze riffling off the lake. What a time to be young and alive.
