@Steve L If Shohei Ohtani posted in a community forum about how far he can hit a fastball, it would be pretty gauche! š
@Mike As the classic dad joke goes: What's the best thing about Switzerland? Well, the flag is a big plus...
I enjoyed this puzzle a lot! It definitely made me smile. Or, you could say: Made of this, sweet dreams are
This puzzle made me smile. If you think you see me complaining, that's not me, it's my evil evil
@Mike I tried to start my own elevator business but I couldnāt get it off the ground. It didnāt help that my business partner kept pushing my buttons
@Mike Iām sorry but I didnāt find that remotely funny (but maybe weāre just not on the same frequency)
@Mike āYou sure were upset when you didnāt catch the flowers ā āI just wanted to boo, kay?ā
@Mike Your jokes are always sterling. You definitely urn your upvotes
@john ezra I recently joined a website to help me eat healthier. Whenever I get on the bathroom scale and see that I lost some more weight, I do a happy dance! My wife calls it my "Noom dab"
Loved this puzzle! I couldnāt visualize the āimage depicted in this puzzle by connecting the circled letters alphabeticallyā, but it still helped me solve once I noticed I had some duplicate letters in the circles when I was stuck. I originally had HYPE UP for energize, but then I realized it had to start with F (but I knew my first thought for F___ UP was not correct š) It was great to see the image appear when I filled in the last letter.
I liked this puzzle except ELPHABA crossing PROST and TEMPERA required a lookup for me
I came to the comments expecting to find people complaining about the Razzie/Tomei cross. That was my only blocker from finishing the puzzle
My fastest Thursday ever. That was quick
@Mariana One notable recent use of the phrase is in the song "Into the Unknown" from Frozen 2: You're not a voice, you're just a ringing in my ear And if I heard you (which I don't) I'm spoken for, I fear
Fun puzzle! I was confused when I thought I answered everything correctly but didnāt get the star. Turns out my rebuses (eg. S-LICE-R) werenāt accepted by the answer checker. Once I took out the ICE it worked.
@Sammy Thatās exactly what I thought. There have been several puzzles recently where the app couldnāt show some special formatting/presentation, so they just described it in a note and made the icon flash so youād click and read it. Itās not perfect but itās good enough. But why wasnāt that done today?
I really struggled to figure out the theme. The first starred clue I figured out was begin/beefeater. I'm not familiar with gin, so my best guess was "begin" sounds kind of like "vegan" and vegans would never eat beef, so it must be something about opposites. Needless to say, I couldn't figure out any of the others! š
@Mike My favorite pun of all time in a childrenās book is when Llama Llama meets a particular animal friend for the first time: āWhatās the gnu girl want to do?ā
@Geoff Offermann I agree! Maybe if enough of us comment here NYT will use shaded cells more often
@Lily TIL āselkieā. And now I know why the seal in the childrenās show Puffin Rock is named Silky!
@MDT Thursdays are usually something ācuteā like this.
@JohnWM "Pan out" means something totally different (the same as "turn out" or "end up"). That's not evidence that "pan in" is valid English (especially in the context of getting a closer look)
@Alex M I was completely stumped by PSST/SEE. I thought the first word was POST, as in Facebook post, since you can poke people on FB. But OEE didnāt make sense for the other. I couldnāt imagine what it could be!
Congrats from a CMU alum! Happy to see us represent An idea for your next puzzle: put "my heart" in the puzzle somewhere š
@JohnWM Oh and if you look at the Google books search results for "panning in" you'll see they all refer to panning for gold (in a river, for example š)
@Thad I was stuck on that clue for a while, wondering how HED makes clutches (since I thought āstop right thereā referred to āendā)
@Kevin I sadly agree. I think it had the most proper nouns of any crossword Iāve ever seen
@Patrick J. Even as an American, I encounter more roundabouts when traveling overseas than here so I also instinctually tried going left in the puzzle and got confused too š I especially miss the Australian roundabouts where people use their blinker to tell you which exit theyāre taking š
