For the first time since I have started the NYT crossword puzzle years ago, I give up on this one. This one is just ridiculous. I intelligence to the Rebus. Just random uses of E and I. No thanks.
Really miss Will Shortz. The clues now are so incredibly obscure - Talofa Airways HQ? How many people know that random fact, and its city and country. That’s just not enjoyable.
@Jonathan *no intelligence to the Rebus is what I tried to type. I often enjoy the Rebus because it’s clever. This one just irritated me.
@Barry Ancona I did delete the app and cancel my subscription. Macronutrients and Understudy Opportunities immediately come to mind. The article explained for both essentially how much of a stretch it is. When it isn’t these poor clues, it’s really obscure trivia. I never had much trouble before the current editor took over. Now it’s simply not enjoyable at all.
Definitely not my cup of tea. Not on the same wavelength as the creator. Quit most of the way through because simply not worth it. And I have a week’s long streak of success without needing any clues.
I’m 40 years old. I’ve never in my life heard the word “padiddle.” How did that get past the editors into the NY. Times crossword puzzle? That is absolutely ridiculous.
When the article has to go out of its way to explain that a clue doesn’t really make sense but it does it you just make it up, then it’s really bad. I’m so over this new crossword editor. Deleting this app until Shortz is back or this guy is replaced.
I was just not on this constructor’s wavelength even a little bit. The “what “it’s not”, they say” is the sort of clue I absolutely despise. It’s lazy, unclever, and way too vague. I find the debut puzzle for a constructor is usually one I do not like at all. I think it takes some practice. I debated just skipping this puzzle altogether about halfway through.
I was unable to figure out how to put an equal sign using my iPad. That was very disappointing. I couldn’t finish the puzzle as a result.
@Jonathan In fact, most of the themed clues were completely nonsensical to me. Was it supposed to make a complete sentence? Because it made no sense to me most of the time. They pu “SH OVER” stuff? What? How does this make sense to anyone?
I don’t do drugs, so all of the cannabis clues through me off. I was completely lost on those.
I finished the puzzle successfully but didn’t get the animation others are talking about. I did it in my iPad.
