This is one of the most boring crosswords I've ever started. So many obtuse and uninteresting answers that I'm gonna go do something else more interesting....like defrost my freezer.
I get that this one was supposed to be clever and all, but somehow that didn't make it very enjoyable.
Ok, this is probably my favorite of the often troublesome Thursday puzzles - more smiles than frowns in working thru it. It was, dare I say, fun!
I had to let Sam Brody know just how delightful I found his puzzle! Lots of tricky clues, but they all produced smiles and head nods - not a groaner or an eyeroll in the bunch. Great job and hope to see more from you soon!
"Snarf?" Is that really a real word? In terms of scavengers, I had never heard that lions scavenge about 40% of their meals, but I figure it must be leftovers from other lions.
I give up. This one no longer feels worth the trouble.
A fun fill, and the UP ARTISTS were a clever reveal!
1A sums up my sentiments: NOPE
G.uess I'm too old for some of these clues. Never heard of at least 4 of them, and I'm around high schoolers every day. Maybe it's an East Coast thing...
Loved today's puzzle, and I learned some things: had never heard of the "Singing Revolution" or the word "ambivert" and found out a lot more about Grant Wood: https://www.christies.com/en/stories/american-gothic-a-midwestern-mystery-37605e6e8e7d4499847f7cf08a09b9fc Thanks for the Sunday fun!
@jim Yeah, it was a slog for me, too. i wish I could've found the delight in it that so many others did because I recognize the immense craft that went into its construction, but the flask and the mountain and the other obscure clues combined with the tangle of a rebus just proved too much for me. And on top of it, so many last night were here crowing about how fun and quick and easy it was, and I felt even more defeated. Anyway, on to the next one!
I *loved* this puzzle! I got just enough of the crossings pretty easily to keep me at it and even though I had to look up some of the trivia clues (Star Trek, Muppet character, s****), I was tickled to figure out all the paired anagrams myself. Really fun and a delightful Sunday puzzle!
@Kincaid - Oh, yeah, and I learned about the Long Now Foundation, which I'd never heard of. The three-lettered man shows up a lot in puzzles but never in reference to that org. So, a fun puzzle AND educational? *chef's kiss* <3
Well, I really wish I'd read this before solving because I had zero idea with those asterisked words signified.
Ok, this one was fun! Although I did feel bad for the vegetarians....
What a fun fill! Laughed out loud not once but twice. Alex Murphy, can't wait for the next one!
@CLN - Yeah, I didn't notice 'til towards the end. Fun regardless and then I appreciated the constructor even more!
Thanks, Colin, for the fun fill!
@Jane Wheelaghan Hey, don't feel bad - I'm a six-decade American and STILL didn't know most of the themed clues!
A lot of fun! The rhymes made me smile -- esp. after Sunday's super un-fun slog
What a slog. Wish I could get my 53 minutes back.
The SUNDAY PUZZLE link at the top of this article is not working.
@Patrick I'm still trying to figure out why it's WRIST. Anyone?
@Grant Ooooh, yes they did, and it is mega-bad!
@Helen Wright I'd forgotten the name of the singer and at first misread the clue so was racking my brain for G&S operettas! Found this video: https://youtu.be/D_P-v1BVQn8?si=0oi-QMB80gE4wiXq
