These clues were evil. Loved it!
@The X-Phile Kara Swisher is a successful, celebrated and award-winning journalist. She is enormously influential in the tech world and had a cameo on the HBO Show Silicon Valley as herself. Obscure to you, but not to the tech, marketing and business worlds. But such is the nature of crossword “obscurity”… it depends on age, interests and profession.
I did it on my phone and managed to solve it pretty quickly without the necessary formatting. I did notice that the letters for a clue to one of the second halves of the pairs could be found by reading select letters in the clue, but wondering how they would expect me to get that. I should have known. It was a fun puzzle, but would have been better if someone had tested it! Kudos to the constructor!
@Jim I did exactly the same thing after banging my head against a wall in the NW corner for far too long. I'm not sure how much of my disapproval comes from sour grapes, but: - The "Dark side of the moon?" was a stretch, though on its own it wouldn't have bothered me. I do know the word but I think "side" makes it a stretch - I disagree that "superficially clever" is really a meaning of CUTE, even if the Oxford dictionary says so. I prefer the Webster definitions - AD SITE isn't really a thing (I should know) However, if I had guessed 1 down, which was a great clue, I wouldn't have had had any problems with the rest.
