Just opened the puzzle, loved seeing FACTORIAL.
Wow, just wow. I never would have gotten it without reading wordplay. Very nicely done. Pet peeve...110D As a civil engineer, I have never used nor even heard of the term IRAIL, neither TRAIL, TBAR, nor IBAR.
Several years ago, I was a passenger in a freight truck driving down the NJ Turnpike when we came upon a tour bus with FATS Domino written on the side. I asked the driver to slow down. As I was along side the driver, I rolled down my window and lipped to him, "Where's Fats?" He pointed his thumb at his chest. Fats was driving his own tour bus. I did some searching when I got home, and he was appearing in Atlantic City in the coming days.
I was a STUDENT, but never a scholar. Yesterday's ALEXTREBEK instantly brought me back to Celebrity Jeopardy on SNL. Thx for Debbie Downer today. Up next, down a YouTube rabbit hole.
Fun smooth solve, except for the POTHOLES. Learning how drive in Manhattan, mom always told me that if you drive over them fast enough, you don't feel them.
@Andrzej Anfrzej. As a native American, I struggle with most national and international directional from here to there clues. They almost always evoke a sigh, a groan, or a face palm from me. On a side note, I recently came across a Britcom titled Mind Your Language. I teach English to a group of mostly native Portuguese speakers and occasionally share clips with them. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvoO1SkcEn98HAM8qFn_iXYFvcmK6o7hS&si=dsnYtNQN2TPbcEKY
This Can't Be Yogurt had a bit of an odd clue. I've also known TCBY as a moniker for Elvis, Tennessee Country BoY. When I come across a xwp like this, I know I am getting my money's worth.
@Perry Brown Beside your location being my native state, I think the initials are...funny.
@Lucas Walker Perhaps for red wine?
Loved that the rebuses, or is it rebi, were symmetrical
I open up a grid like this and feceslap. I am proud that I don't get some puzzles, and this is one of them. I wish I could get a refund on this puzzle. I can't imagine the cleverness that went into the construction of this puzzle, but save it for another venue.
@Richard Landster I only go to Wordplay after I have finished solving the puzzle, or...for help. To me, Wordplay is a spoiler alert.
@Pani Korunova Saudades. Are you a native alfinete? Spelling?
@Justin And yet, there are still masses of people willing to risk their lives to be a part of this land of opportunity. Perhaps my head has been in the sand, but I'm not aware of even the slightest bit of a post election exodus. Loved today's puzzle.
Too cute for me. I'm proud to admit this was way out of my wheelhouse. What's wrong with a xwp without any gimmicks? Happily, I recently found xwp's by more traditional constructors in the New Yorker.
SCUSe for not knowing that CHIANTe was spelled with an I instead of an E.
I cringe when I open up a puzzle with anything besides a plain black and white grid.
@Andrzej Welcome to Americana! Spending the holidays in Brazil, or Brasil, if you prefer, where accents are everything in the Portuguese language, but not so much in our everyday English language. If you have been a a nice boy during the year, may Santa Claus be kind enough to you and yours to leave a pair of matching Grinch PJs under your tree on Christmas morning.
@PR Betz Is that a subtle threat? You could always construct yout own XWPs.
@Charlie TIE, in tennis, love-love.

@Lucy What do we do with all the extra time we have by shortening cucumber to CUKE?
@T I don't know why, but your your comment immediately reminded me of the unBOFFO Springtime For Hitler.
Seriously? A Friday puzzle? I know I'm not that good at solving, but come on...
Once again, I am proud to say I did not get the gimmick. Too gimmicky for my taste. See ya tomorrow.
@CaptainQuahog sublime!
@Pani Korunova To that, imagine what you might be served if you enter a sorveteria and order a coconut ice cream using the wrong accent. Fortunately, the Brazilian people are generally forgiving towards Gringos like me here in the interior.
@Michael I got it in 4:08, srsly?
@Aaron Teasdale I once had a futon that didn't have any slats.
@Esmerelda What are you going to do when The Donald annexes Canada 🇨🇦? We will have to add stars to the USFLAG 🇺🇸.
@Dvdmgsr Did you notice that the U* squares were all in the FOURTH square of each answer? Whatever!
@Francis DeBernardo Should be fairly easy, as long as they keep the translation at a 7th grade level.
@Byron STONEHENGE is one of the all-time classic British rock groups, right behind Zep, Stones, Beatles, Who. Rock on!
@G Clinton, NJ is an old address. I have lived in Newark's Ironbound district for the past 10 yrs. Although there is a significant Portuguese immigrant in the area, lately, there has been a large Brazilian influxinto thearea. They throw quite the celebration during Carnavale in Feb. I'm currently spending my férias in MG Brasil. I've not had a better barbecue than the Brazilians do.
@B How could you ever enjoy a show whose star does little more than yell at and demean his sweet, loving wife???
@WMY "Oh do behave" https://www.nytimes.com/shared/comment/47ijmq?rsrc=cshare&smid=url-share
@Joseph George Costanza would disagree.
@Tim P was it re-giphted?
@Paul "Her name was Lola, she was a showgirl...at the Copa, Copa Cabana..."
@Andrzej Preceded by the battle of Righties vs. Lefties
@Pani Korunova Do they still have the wine caves is Villa Nova da Guia?
@Steve L When is the last time you paid for a campsite for a class A with full hookups?
@Striker To me, SNARFing is the act of inhaling a chunk of Jello into the back of your throat so that you don't have to swallow it. Think "Jello shots" in college years.
@john ezra What's unfair about "merit based:
@Andrzej You and my mother have at least one thing in common. I enjoy reading your posts and am impressed by your crossword savvy and command of the English language.
