Cute puzzle! & a very satisfying solve. I got the theme pretty quickly but I thought the circled letters would spell out something relating to the theme, like ENERGY or something, but it wasn't until the end when the picture was revealed that I realized it was just ABCDEF lol
I implore anyone that found KIMBAP a difficult entry to try some: especially with some bulgogi, thinly sliced marinated beef. A great snack, and who knows, it might show up in a future puzzle :-)
@Lauren Could you give an example where the clues don't make sense?
@Tim You're correct in that SPEEDRUN is a noun. The clue is also a noun however, the -ING does not indicate a continuous action, but a gerund of "Complete" to make it a noun-noun clue answer pairing.
Even after figuring out the theme (thank you [Soup or sandwich]) I had a hard time with 62A.. kept reading it as "great equality", so I was thinking in the direction of civil rights. Really fun though!
southwest corner was a nightmare for me, i filled in TMI instead of IMO, cut me MORE slack instead of SOME, but most embarrassing was mixing up RUTH bader ginsberg with RUBE goldberg...
The amount of double letters (LL, AA) was a doozy especially in the middle of the puzzle! I was stuck for awhile trying to fit in UNDERDOG in 44A. Thank you for the fun solve :-)
AIDA was the OPERA for the Metropolitan Opera New Year's Eve Gala. I had the privilege of seeing it on December 31st, and Angel Blue was a fantastic lead!
@Valerie The answer when parsed with the location of the "to" is: comes [down] to the wire
@Bill in Yokohama I'd love to read this but alas, it is BEHIND A PAYWALL.
First time my Thursday time has been so close to my Monday.
Earl Sweatshirt mention!!!!
Anyone else surprised by Zoom SEX? Scoured the comments and found nothing mentioning it (so far) I might be out of the loop!
not the biggest fan of 10D's clue, feels clunky. I appreciate the parallelism in 36 & 37D, both visually and answer wise!
I LOVE this puzzle and how the clues without the additional letters are also words themselves. Great job!!!
I don't know how to feel about this one...
