Greetings all! I’m repeating the plea to have the navigation changed so that one can, once again, toggle between Wordplay and the puzzle on a phone. It’s incredibly inconvenient to have it all in the same window. Please recommend, fellow solvers!
@Marlene - beautifully said. My solving experience in retirement has been similar, thanks to @Deb Amlen’s advice that anyone can learn to solve! In fact, my standard retirement advice is to routinely solve the NYT crossword because it is a reminder of what day it is. Cheers!
@dutchiris I'm with you. I thought this was clever and I had a lot of fun with it.
Today I reached a 365 day streak of not giving up! In the past year my days of I NAILED IT have far outpaced those when I’m fearing a LOSS. Many thanks to the Wordplay authors and commenters who get me going when I’m stuck. And to the constructors, your skills have my eternal respect.
Finished a Sunday all by myself! Started last night and let it marinate. The best advice from #Deb Amlen. Happy Sunday everyone!
I picked up on the theme fairly early with GATECHANGE though the rest of that one took more work. Very clever puzzle. I have MADRESPECT for the constructors.
New personal best for Tuesday! Favorite clue: Present day, in short. I completed it on crosses and it took a minute to click when I admired the puzzle. Thank you for the fun solve Michael Lieberman!
Thank you John Westwig for the fun Sunday solve. TIL that cheese is slang for money!
I laugh when the app tells me “Well done! You solved the clues with no hints.” after I scrolled through comments to get some hints. Thank you all - I really needed you today!
Fun puzzle! ross before JOEY really slowed me down but the rest of the grid was a joy.
@MWC Yes please!!! I’m a solver with a long streak of “not giving up.” The ability to easily peek at Tricky Clues or see what clues other solvers are talking about is key. The new design does not make that easy. Let’s get lots of Recommends on this!!
Anyone else misguided by their spelling bee expertise with TUTTi at 27D? I corrected it with the aha moment of the soup course GAZPACHO.
Thank you for this clever Monday Alan Arbesfeld. Having finished via the crosses, my head was spinning trying to sort out the theme entries. Then NOOMDAB clicked and my head was singing.
@Becca I tried punny before corny
So much of this felt familiar. Like I solved it last week.
Fabulous puzzle, @Joe DiPietro! Sometimes I feel wildly victorious after a solve and today was one of those days. I will still be thinking of this when I land in Rome next month.
Brilliant and challenging Sunday! Caught on to the theme early with Q/BUIK AND HAZMATSUIT (though it took awhile for the rebus placement on the latter to be clear.) I was rewarded for being patient and letting this unfold over a few sittings. All of the unknowns were revealed through the crosses. Thank you @Derrick Niederman!
@Paul yes, everywhere in the US.
@Paula yep. This was hard. Onward!
@David Johnson I ask my History- Religion- Opera-loving husband about clues all the time. Have to use my resources! I learn from him everyday, whether I need help on the puzzle or not. Today I learned from @Byron Walton. Five star constructor note. Thank you!
@Barry Ancona yes. I was grappling with the long (lol) entries and started going for the “i “ for some hints when I remembered it is Wednesday and I shouldn’t need help with this! Stuck with it and finally the theme clicked. Tenacity was rewarded.
A very satisfying Friday solve - one where each time I returned to it a few new entries were apparent. I love it when my brain works on it while I’m doing other things. Thank you for the puzzle @Colin Adams!
LOVE IT when I can do a Thursday with no hints. Fun puzzle, clever theme @Nikhil Bailey!
@Steve thank you for AWAIT!
@HEK and BIGLOVE was a fantastic series. I breezed through the theme answers and then sussed out the rest. Fun Thursday solve!
@CNSbso So true. In fact, many bookkeepers are not CPAs.
Thank you @Malaika Handa for a fun Friday solve and a new personal best!
@lucky13 Trouble with the Curve is a gem!
@CCNY thank you I needed that!
@CCNY My mate is a big Formula 1 fan. I only knew it because there is a big race there!
@Sue Happens often!! Makes me laugh and then I relish at how far I’ve come
@SP EARGASM …I needed that (maybe I do need that!)
@George if you finish Friday before Saturday and Sunday you may be able to keep the streak. Good luck!
@jdc thus TAKE A PENNY LEAVE A PENNY. One of the ones is “taken”
@Tom S. Thank you. I needed that!
@Turing I’m happy to join the ranks of the new Personal Bests today. What a fun solve! Thank you for a great puzzle @Greg Snitkin and @Glenn Davis
@Xword Junkie thank you I needed that U instead of O
@Marcia Fidler I had Audra instead of AUDRE as the first name in 14A. cao just as possible as CEO as the cross. Overall - I really enjoyed the wordplay today!
@Francis thanks I needed that!
