@Dan. OMG! I’m so tired of people like you and Barry Ancona complaining that every puzzle is too easy…
@Steve L. Who cares ? It was also quite fun. Doesn’t that count for anything ?
@Dc. Why are you racing through the puzzle ? Is the only enjoyment you get setting a fast time (and then bragging about it) ?? Relax and enjoy the wordplay.
This puzzle wasn’t difficult enough !! I solved it in eight minutes with one hand tied behind my back and both eyes closed !! When will we finally get a real Saturday puzzle ??
Meh, I solved the puzzle easily but the gimmick did nothing to assist me. I understood the gimmick early on but it really didn’t help me to solve the puzzle. And it didn’t give me a pleasant aha moment.
@Francis. Think in terms of odor and the wide array of esters that exist. This dominates your sense of flavor. Add in acids for tartness, bases for bitterness, sugars for sweetness, and the combinations are nearly endless.
@Francis. You are way off base. Only certain types of criticism are acceptable in this forum. Complaining that the puzzle is too easy is common and readily accepted. However, if anyone dares complain that a puzzle was too hard or a clue too obscure, that person is immediately pilloried and informed that the problem is not with the puzzle but that the complainer is insufficiently educated or just plain stupid.
@Deborah Gordon Sexist ?? Why not offer some grace and assume it was just an error ?
@Barry Ancona. You really mean, “with all due lack of respect”.
@sotto voce. Yes, the lowest common denominator. The uneducated. The hoi polloi. The people who haven’t spent the last twenty years of their lives doing crossword puzzles. Heaven forbid they might be able to solve a puzzle. Every puzzle should be so difficult that only the top 1% should ever be able to solve them !!
@Francis. Curious, regarding Venus, do you tend to think of Morning Star or Evening Star ??
@Francis. It’s not chewy, it’s crunchy. Get on board with the old timers who police this board…
Easily finished this puzzle without ever understanding the “trick” of the anagram. Quite superfluous and a waste of time…
@Francis. I don’t think you’ll find many compatriots agreeing with your love of physical chemistry. I say this as someone who earned his Ph.D. in analytical chemistry. Unfortunately, most p-chem textbooks are poorly written. Additionally, most of my physical chemistry professors were truly awful teachers. I hope you are an exception to the rule…
Solving the puzzle was fun. But, really, I thought the visual aspect was weak.
@Asher. Ironically, the folks who are always complaining that puzzles are too easy are now whining that this puzzle was too difficult.
@NanuNanu. It was the “T” at the end that bothered me. Bzzz, yes. Never seen bzzt, however.
